Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem
The Ark of the Covenant, The Tabernacle, and The Temple
Ezekiel 8 (Old Testament)
Idolatry in the Temple
8 In the sixth year, in the sixth month on the fifth day, while I was sitting in my house and the elders of Judah were sitting before me, the hand of the Sovereign Lord came on me there. 2 I looked, and I saw a figure like that of a man.[a] From what appeared to be his waist down he was like fire, and from there up his appearance was as bright as glowing metal. 3 He stretched out what looked like a hand and took me by the hair of my head. The Spirit lifted me up between earth and heaven and in visions of God he took me to Jerusalem, to the entrance of the north gate of the inner court, where the idol that provokes to jealousy stood. 4 And there before me was the glory of the God of Israel, as in the vision I had seen in the plain.
5 Then he said to me, Son of man, look toward the north. So I looked, and in the entrance north of the gate of the altar I saw this idol of jealousy.
6 And he said to me, Son of man, do you see what they are doingthe utterly detestable things the Israelites are doing here, things that will drive me far from my sanctuary? But you will see things that are even more detestable.
7 Then he brought me to the entrance to the court. I looked, and I saw a hole in the wall. 8 He said to me, Son of man, now dig into the wall. So I dug into the wall and saw a doorway there.
9 And he said to me, Go in and see the wicked and detestable things they are doing here. 10 So I went in and looked, and I saw portrayed all over the walls all kinds of crawling things and unclean animals and all the idols of Israel. 11 In front of them stood seventy elders of Israel, and Jaazaniah son of Shaphan was standing among them. Each had a censer in his hand, and a fragrant cloud of incense was rising.
12 He said to me, Son of man, have you seen what the elders of Israel are doing in the darkness, each at the shrine of his own idol? They say, The Lord does not see us; the Lord has forsaken the land. 13 Again, he said, You will see them doing things that are even more detestable.
14 Then he brought me to the entrance of the north gate of the house of the Lord, and I saw women sitting there, mourning the god Tammuz. 15 He said to me, Do you see this, son of man? You will see things that are even more detestable than this. 16 He then brought me into the inner court of the house of the Lord, and there at the entrance to the temple, between the portico and the altar, were about twenty-five men. With their backs toward the temple of the Lord and their faces toward the east, they were bowing down to the sun in the east.
17 He said to me, Have you seen this, son of man? Is it a trivial matter for the people of Judah to do the detestable things they are doing here? Must they also fill the land with violence and continually arouse my anger? Look at them putting the branch to their nose! 18 Therefore I will deal with them in anger; I will not look on them with pity or spare them. Although they shout in my ears, I will not listen to them.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem
Oh LORD, Our God,
How Excellent Is Your Name Over All The Earth!
How Mighty,
How Majestic,
and How Wonderful!
You Alone Are Worthy of Praise and Worship,
For You Alone Are the Most High,
Ancient of Days,
Our Rock and Our Redeemer,
Our Refuge and Our Strength!
You Are the Creator of All Things,
And Yet, Even In Your Omnipotence,
You Give us the Privilege of Calling Out To You,
"Abba, Father!"
Help us to live exemplary lives,
That we will never be a reproach to the enemies of our souls.
May the Leaders of Our Own Beloved USA
Receive Wisdom from You
to do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.
Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.
Hallelujah and Amen

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem
The shocking photo in Today's opening Post could very well be related to Ezekiel's Vision that is described in Chapter 8 of this Prophecy. If one looks carefully at the picture, it becomes apparent that the worshipers' REAR ENDS are facing their temple. This is because they are "Oriented", that is, "Facing East".
I recently bought a cheap compass and adhered it to my Motorcycle. Since I don't have GPS, I thought it would be cool to know what direction I am headed. It works so well for me while I am hiking, and because I use my compass all the time while walking in the woods, I never seem to get lost. On the Bike, though, it was strange. I KNEW I was headed South, and the compass said North. Then when I turned East, it said I was going West! What happened? Did the powerful engine on my Harley somehow reverse the polarity? I solved the problem by believing exactly the opposite of what the compass was telling me, but I am just going to detach it and go my own way. The season is almost over anyway)
God tells Ezekiel to widen a hole in the wall of the Temple and look inside. What he sees are three kinds of Idolatry that both shocks and disgusts him.
1. An Actual Idol: This is the least subtle of the three. A big statue of a false god was being offered incense and sacrifices. It was blatant and easy to recognize.
2. False or exaggerated "Piety": The "Women Weeping For Tammuz" were carrying on in a loud manner over the death of Tammuz (a Middle Eastern deity), and each one was trying to outdo the others in an attempt to show off their extreme piety. One is reminded of North Korea when their last dictator died. People wailed and carried on incessantly because no one wanted to be accused of not mourning enough!
3. The Worship of Creation rather than the Creator: The men prostrating themselves in the Temple were Oriented (That is, Facing East) to worship the Rising Sun. Although the Sun is mighty impressive, it is NOT GOD. The worship of Creation rather than The Creator is a huge sin, and is detailed in Paul's Letter to the Romans Chapter One.
All three of these facets of Idolatry were common in Ezekiel's day...but guess what...It is common today too.
On this Rosh Hashanah, I wish us all Peace, Health and Prosperity, but let us be sure our Compass is pointing in the Right Direction!

Praying with you that this season of Ross Hashanah would cause an awakening and a searching by the sons of Israel. Father, stir a hunger to know You and to find eternal life. When they seek for You with their hearts, they will find You.
