Every Roman Catholic identifies as Christian. Catholics do not call themselves “Catholic Christrians” because it is redundant and unnecessary. Ignoring that fact does not make it go away.

And when I've asked someone if they are a Christian and they respond with *No, I'm a Catholic*, then what?

You cannot possibly say that EVERY Catholic identifies as a Christian because you cannot speak for all Catholics. That would require knowing every single Catholic and how they answer.

Yes, I can answer for every Catholic, because anyone who is not a Christian is not a Catholic. Christianity is the basis of the Catholic religion. Anyone who claims to be Catholic but not Christian is a liar.

As I said, Catholics do not label themselves “Catholic Christians” because being Catholic makes one a Christian by definition. It would be like saying ‘I am a surgeon doctor’.

The only way I would think that a Catholic would answer the way you say they did is to make it clear that they were not a Protestant Christian, since many Protestants would assume that was the case if you answered that question affirmatively without clarifying. I’m sure if you would have asked further, they would have explained that.

Love,
O2
