Fat Guy’s position sounds a little like a Calvinist view. But not nearly as extreme, since Calvinists pretty much say you don’t have any choice in the matter- the Elect, Predestination, dead in your sins and all that.

Yours is more typical of an Arminian view, found in some Baptist circles. Although some Baptists have the Calvinist position.
