When you have no real assurance, the purpose for your life becomes making yourself worthy enough or, if the going gets too hard, as some have done, sadly, they chuck it all and cling to agnosticism or even atheism misunderstanding who God even is. Yes, you know of course, that I was a member of a certain works based religion. I had NO assurance of salvation at all. Eventually, I thought I could never be good enough to "attain" salvation, so I chucked that works based religion, but at least I was interested in knowing the truth. I FOUND the truth. 😀

Yes, you know of course, that I was a member of a certain works based religion. I had NO assurance of salvation at all. Eventually, I thought I could never be good enough to "attain" salvation, so I chucked that works based religion, but at least I was interested in knowing the truth. I FOUND the truth. I was in that same religion, too. But when I read this passage from the Bible for the first time...
My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Fathers hand. I and the Father are one. (John 10:27-30)
...the Holy Spirit turned a light on in my soul and I knew I had been in the wrong religion. I never heard before that someone could KNOW they were going to heaven when they die - except if you were a "Saint" or a martyr for Jesus or you were a nun or a priest - I figured they could be pretty sure they'd be good enough to make it. But when I read that JESUS said He would give me eternal life, I would never perish and nobody could snatch me out of His hands, then I knew I could believe Him. I never once looked back or thought I made a mistake. The Holy Spirit does that - gives you a certainty that you are believing the truth and constantly confirms it through the word.
