I remember when I was going to Catholic school, I was taught, that if I went to mass on 9 straight first Fridays, and 5 straight first Saturdays, I would get a soul out of purgatory. I felt so great, having the power to release someone from purgatory.
I have no idea, if all Catholics are told this. Were any of you told this too?

It was this "Treasury of Merit" that was used as collateral when indulgences were sold and it helped finance St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican City.
