I'm a practicing RC, but when I play organ, it's at Protestant churches. They have better hymns and I get to improvise during the Offerings.
My own church is starting, slowwwwly, to throw off the mantle of hippie Vatican II guitars and incorporate better music.
Nothing beats 4 part harmony though.

The Catholic Churches in my area have completely stopped using the organ for Mass. It is all piano all of the time. Also 100% Marty Haugen / David Haas show tunes. I call them Disney Masses.

I came home from VN in 1968, and the first Mass I went to turned out to be a Folk Mass.
Made me feel so uncomfortable I left.

My parish, I am an active Catholic, two of the three Sunday masses the organ is played. The guitar is played at the early morning mass. The pastor believes it is gentle on the ears. Once a month the children and families Sunday mass uses both guitar and electric piano. Again the pastor believes gentle on the ears.
