Short answer: "Bénédictine" is a liqueur that was supposedly invented by Benedictine monks, but that was fake news, it was invented by Alexandre Le Grand in the 1800s.

My father used to drink "B&B," or bénédictine and brandy, on special occasions. I tried a sip of it once when I was 10, thought it was gross, and never tried it again.
