I believe that it is likely that the same event that brought us the flood also brought us our mountain ranges. A close encounter with another planet like Venus or Mars, or some other that has long since left our solar system.
I believe that before the flood there was no such thing as a sunny day. It was always overcast, only VERY heavy overcast. And a lot of that water is what makes up our oceans today.

Overcast? Try a black 1,000 times darker than you could ever begin to imagine. And an atmospheric pressure of millions of times the present pressure.
I found it very interesting when looking at Neap tides. It is pretty overwhelming to think of the power of the universe in comparison to the paltry power of mankind and the ability to even comprehend it.
