The ancient city of Mosul, in Iraq, is currently experiencing an agonizing struggle between regular forces of the Iraqi Government, allied with the Kurdish Peshmurga , local Iraqi militias and supported by US and international coalition forces, seeking to wrest the city from the forces of the recently formed ISIS army. The joint operation is called in Arabic, Qadimun Ya Naynawa, translated “Oh Ninewa,Here We come!”.

Can you see in the Arabic translation the name of an ancient Biblical city? Ninewa is the Arabic way of saying, “Ninevah”, the city which Jonah had once preached repentance unto, in spite of his reluctance to even go there.Mosul is the modern name for the city of Ninevah.

In the year 2014, ISIS took Mosul, the second largest city in Iraq with a mere 1,500 fighters, due largely to the deep dissatisfaction of the cities Sunni majority, with the Shiite Government of Iraq. It was in Mosul that US trained and equipped Sunni troops simply laid down their weapons and joined ISIS. Immediately after taking the oil rich city, ISIS looted several banks and Gold storage facilities making Isis one of the richest organizations in the world!

In the fighting, and reprisals after the Battle for Mosul, 500,000 citizens were displaced and countless thousands brutalized and killed by ISIS.

Another casualty of ISIS’ occupation of Mosul was Jonah’s Tomb. Remember the Biblical prophet who at first had refused to go to preach to the Ninevites, knowing that the God of Israel was likely to show mercy to the cruel enemy of Israel? Jonah dd go and Ninevah did repent for the time being. Evidently Jonah was buried there, and in the Muslim period, a Mosque had been built around it.

The iconoclastic Wahabbi sect ISIS bombed it, uncovering a fourth century church.

There is a famous mosque in Mosul, the Grand Mosque, which is renown throughout the Sunni Muslim world. The Mosque became the backdrop, in 2014 of the declaration of ISIS head, Abu Bakr Qadrawi, that the Caliphate was restored and that HE would be the current Caliph.

The Caliphate is the central Sunni authority, religious and military, which guided Sunnis (80 percent of all Muslims), for centuries, The last Caliphate was in Istanbul, Turkey under the Ottoman Empire, but as a consequence of Ottoman defeat in World War 1 and the consequent modernization program of Mustafa Kemal(akaAttaturk), the Caliphate has been disbanded since 1924.The revival of the Caliphate has long been the burning desire of Muslims the world over.

Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of the Islamic State, emerged from the shadows to lead Friday prayers at Mosul’s Great Mosque, calling on the world’s Muslims to “obey” him as the head of the caliphate declared by the Sunni jihadist group. The notoriously secretive jihadi, who has never before been seen in public, chose the first Friday prayer service of Ramadan to make an audacious display of power in the city that the Sunni Islamists have now controlled for three weeks. Speaking from the balcony in his new incarnation as self-anointed “Caliph Ibrahim”, Baghdadi announced himself as “the leader who presides over you”, urging Muslims to join him and “make jihad” for the sake of Allah. Under his direction, the Islamic world would be returned to “dignity, might, rights and leadership”, he said. “I am the wali (leader) who presides over you, though I am not the best of you, so if you see that I am right, assist me,” he said, dressed in a black turban and robe reminiscent of the last caliphs to rule from Baghdad.(http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/middleeast/iraq/10948480/Islamic-State-leader-Abu-Bakr-al-Baghdadi-addresses-Muslims-in-Mosul.html)

The Caliphate is an accelerant, and makes ISIS much more viable and dangerous than Al Queda.

One aspect of the Battle for Mosul/Ninevah struck an ominous remembrance of the detail of an ancient Prophecy. In Mosul there is a dam which was built on the Tigris River in Ninewa province. It is badly engineered, having been founded upon water soluble foundation, and which threatens to affect millions of people down river, should it burst. Al Arabya English language edition reports,

According to US Army engineers, the dam was built on ‘karst’ foundation, water-soluble rocks that are hastening subsurface dissolution. Since its commissioning in 1985, maintenance crews have had to continuously pour liquid cement under its foundation to fill the cracks, an operation called grouting, in order to keep the structure stable and secure. Without these constant injections, Iraq’s biggest dam would soon collapse causing a humanitarian disaster.

Al Jazeera say that the destruction of the teetering Dam would be worse than a Nuclear explosion,Daniel Pipes reports that there have been constant attempts by Terrorists to blow the Dam up , potentially killing hundreds of thousands.

The Prophet Nahum predicted the destruction of Ninevah, and event which happened partially once in 616 BC.

It is ironic that we find ourselves gathered once again, at the end of time at these same ancient cities, so often mentioned in Scripture. Damascus, Ninevah/Mosul, Babylon, Ammon (Rabath Amman) had roles to play in Scripture and now again in the end times, these same places and peoples emerge as key role players.

The passage in the prophecy which resonated with me when I heard of the Dam, predicts that Ninevah would be swept away by a flood!

The burden of Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite. God is jealous, and the Lord revengeth; the Lord revengeth, and is furious; the Lord will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for his enemies. The Lord is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: the Lord hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet. He rebuketh the sea, and maketh it dry, and drieth up all the rivers: Bashan languisheth, and Carmel, and the flower of Lebanon languisheth. The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at his presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein. Who can stand before his indignation? and who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? his fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown down by him. The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him. But with an overrunning flood he will make an utter end of the place thereof, and darkness shall pursue his enemies.

Also ominously in Nahum’s description of the destruction of Ninevah,

The gates of the rivers shall be opened, and the palace shall be dissolved. And Huzzab shall be led away captive, she shall be brought up, and her maids shall lead her as with the voice of doves, tabering upon their breasts. But Nineveh is of old like a pool of water: yet they shall flee away. Stand, stand, shall they cry; but none shall look back.(Nahum 2:6-8)

Open your eyes people, everywhere you look prophecy is being fulfilled! Jesus is coming again!

Not only is it possible , it’s what our [[Is it not possible to drain the lake to lower the pressure on the dam?]]

Not only is it possible it’s what our engineers suggested they do. The French built that thing and they don’t want to do that . It would be like them admitting how stupid it was to build a dam on soil that was not fit to build on.
