You are probably accurate in his motivations, however, I think that idea is fatally misplaced.
The job description of the See of St. Peter is first and foremost to confirm the true doctrine of the universal Church. He needs to attend to spiritual works of mercy that are higher than the corporal works of mercy.
We have hundreds of wonderful religious orders to do acts of corporal charity...we do not expect them to expound on doctrine. We do expect it from him, but he is not doing it well.
I don’t necessarily disagree with you, I think he oversteps but it is from love base, not politically motivated I believe.
