Why would the Bible in 1John 4 tell us how to test spirits?

It answers it in that very verse.

To see if they are from God.

If they are not angels of the Holy Spirit, they are demons.

They are NOT the spirits of people for us to order around or mess with.

And how would we know what they are if we did not communicate with them and test them? The head in the sand approach does not work.
