I always thought the weird thing about the Rapture is that there seems to be really no cultural impact with a fairly sizable % of the Christian population in the US believing it.
What would Christians do if they thought that if they are saved, they might suddenly disappear, and the then the world is plunged into chaos? Do they have any obligation to make things easier for the ones sadly left behind? Like would they avoid certain jobs, set up emergency bunkers or foundations for those left behind, not keep pets or what? Or is the fact that they are saved mean that by default the unsaved are doomed anyhow and it doesn’t matter how easy they have it or not?
Freegards
What obligation did Noah have in his time? Lot? Moses? Their duty was to warn people of God’s coming judgement so they could escape the things to come.
In my experience, Christians who believe they are saved have a "you had your chance" attitude towards everyone else. For many, being able to take that attitude towards others seems to be the point of the religion. Attitudes towards gays are particularly telling. Seems the story of the good Samaritan has limited effect. And don't get them going on the Greatest Commandment unless you enjoy watching an angry oiled weasel squirm itself into knots.
“Like would they avoid certain jobs, set up emergency bunkers or foundations for those left behind, not keep pets or what?”
A number of years ago I read an article about a rapture day pet service company. For a fee, this company promised to take care of the pets of those who had been raptured.
During the tribulation there are preachers seeking to bring people tp Christ
If you want to know the social impact of millions of Christians suddenly gone, ponder one verse describing end times...”the love of many will grow cold”. There will be no expectation of help when misfortune falls on one, only massive distrust of all the peoples in one another.
Murders, mayhem, and corruption will increase with no leavening force to blunt or curtail the excesses. Many a seeming kind smile will have fang and venom behind it and for most, a wearying constant stress of life that hangs on the heart like a 100 lb weight!
Picture the depressive greyness and the killing barbarity of North Korea spread everywhere and the vain harlotries of Babylon presented as a replacement for genuine Godly joy, which instead is only a temporary anesthetic of the pain in one’s dying soul,(”lipstick on the pig” known as life on Earth at that time) and you’ll get the picture of life on Earth without Christians!
We are indeed the salt of the Earth...we are that “angel that touches the pool of Bethesda”, only we touch the Earth in that way to show that there is indeed hope of salvation and healing for any who would wish to take that plunge into God’s grace! Peace to you!
