Calvinists teach that a tiny percentage of baptized Christians known as the "elect" will go to heaven. But most Christians are not Calvinists. If human meritocracy is not needed to get to heaven, shouldn't the majority of baptized Christians go to heaven?
Well said...
Sacraments, a Roman Legal ocncept, are the means by which the professional religionists, who are no different than the political opportunists (mercenaries) with High School IQ’s, make you think that they are the intermediary with the One and Living God... they are, clearly, anti-Christ. In the Greek rendering, ‘anti’ means “in the place of”. We must run to Christ Jesus the One Mediator, God with us... not Satan’s fake christianity which has pews filled with unconverted religionist-boy-scouts and Oprah-worshippers in all their lovely little, and big, brick and mortar mausoleums with neon signs manifesting their 501c3 betrayals.. Delusion, Inc. Franciscam.
Love of money... root of all evil. Hypocrisy... the garb of churchianists.
From which angle....false teaching of catholicism or the information was presented incorrectly?
"39 One of the criminals who were hanged there was hurling abuse at Him, saying, "Are You not the Christ? Save Yourself and us!" 40 But the other answered, and rebuking him said, "Do you not even fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? 41 "And we indeed are suffering justly, for we are receiving what we deserve for our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong." 42 And he was saying, "Jesus, remember me when You come in Your kingdom!" 43 And He said to him, "Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise."
The other thief is assured by Jesus Christ, Himself that he will be in Heaven with Him in Paradise. This thief was not baptized.
Being baptized is an act of obedience and identification with Christ. It is not a prerequisite for one's salvation, as not all who have accepted Christ have necessarily been baptized or have necessarily had the opportunity to be baptized.

I think it is helpful to always look at what the bible teaches, any church that teaches that its members will go to heaven is not preaching truth, because we know that not all that attend church follow Christ and His teachings, that being said, baptism is an act of obedience, the Lord Himself gave it as example for us. Throughout the Old Testament and New Testament, it teaches that “they believed and it was reckoned to them as righteousness. You act on what you believe.
Not true. Matthew 7:21-23 shows that many Christians will not go to heaven.
As a Catholic I was taught there are three types of Baptism. 1. by water,2.Blood (martyrdom),and 3. desire. Which would cover the thief on the cross.
There are many Scripture verses which refer to baptism by water. There is also such a thing as baptism by the Holy Spirit, which is refereed to twice in Acts: first, in Acts 1:4-5 and second in Acts 11:16.
While they may be something referred to in Catholic tradition, do you have a Scriptural basis for and reference to anything termed, "baptism by blood," or "baptism by desire?"

I think it's a good question, though.
The answer seems to be "Yes!", but also "no" and "maybe", depending on who you ask, but it's a question we have to each answer for ourselves.
I can't claim the Father's understanding, so I'm working out my own answer to that question day by day, even hour by hour to minute by minute sometimes.
As such, and for what it's worth, as the material might be unexpected, this message, "Ask For The Grace Of Compunction", is helpful for me.
Also, given the perspective found in the message "The Ten Commandments", I know that I'm definitely not where I need to be with my heart, words and deeds.
I'm a sinner in a confused, sin-saturated world and there are still dark places in my being, habits, thoughts, reactions, etc., that I've not yet surrendered to the the Holy Trinity.
Not sure why I fight so about some things but will surrender so easily with others, but that's how it is with me and my inner rebel. Definitely not on the Path of Virtues these days, but at least now I've heard of it.
Bottom line? I've read, and I believe that it's a very good thing, that this is a time of His Grace and Mercy.
I am a Calvinist and this statement is incorrect.
We believe all Christians go to heaven. Even if they happen not to be baptized! For example, the thief on the cross went.
If anyone wants to know what Calvinists actually believe please ask. I don’t know where this poster is coming from.
A Calvinist is in my opinion just a Bible believing Christian.
Respectfully, all those who have received Christ as Savior are Christians: "All that the Father gives to Me shall come to Me, and him that comes to Me I will in no wise cast out." (John 6:37)
Therefore, all who are truly Christians will be in Heaven. Jesus Christ says so.
Matthew 7:21-23 refers to those who usurped the power of Christ to perform what may have been great miracles and actions, but they themselves never placed their faith in Christ and they are therefore not Christians.

You ask this question of FReepers. They are the wrong people to ask. Only God knows. None of us have the answer.
And all of us have more important things to do than worry about that question.
You are correct.

They are not Christians though they claim to be.
I don’t think anyone is going to heaven because it seems no Christian thinks any other Christian practices the way they do and therefore isn’t practicing properly to go to heaven.
Yes, that is why we strive to be the right type ;-)
Actually quite a number of us do have an answer informed by God's Holy Scriptures, if you take time to read the comments.
And all of us have more important things to do than worry about that question.
While you are certainly free to move along yourself no less than some 50, or so, posts to this thread at this writing, says you're wrong.

Respectfully, many call themselves Christians. We now have homosexual Christians, drunkard Christians, Muslim Christians, etc. Jesus clearly shows that just “answering” an alter-call or “praying a prayer” is not enough. A person must turn from iniquity. Psalm 19 warns that a person can step over a line, or let go of God. God is a faithful husband who will not forsake us, but that does not mean that we can’t divorce him! (Isaiah 50)
Baptism has nothing to do with going to Heaven. Accepting Christ as Savior is the only way. Baptism is an outward profession of that faith — a good thing to do, but not required for salvation.
