“but these seems like a possible motivation for exaggerating what he is actually seeing.”
Why, because you don’t think evil exists?
This is a very fascinating subject to me. I believe Western education has avoided teaching evil ever since it removed compelling religious discourse from its study. People have been educated for decades without any concept of what evil is other than adjectives and subjective examples. They cannot understand evil because they lack the moral framework to comprehend its workings. They cannot identify it so they are incapable of opposing it. I.e, liberals.
Of course evil exists, but it need not be supernatural. I am personally skeptical of anything supernatural, even though I experience deja vu every now and then.
So, label me a skeptic on things like demonic possession, ghosts, UFO, vampires, Bigfoot, etc.....until I see them with my own eyes.
I’ve always been fond of the saying “The Devil’s best trick is to make you think he doesn’t exist”.
