I was in 2nd grade for the first Earth Day. The teacher said that we’d be out of oil by the time I was 35, freezing to death in an ice age by the time I was 50, and all the animals would be gone by the time I died.

For the first 25 years or so, Earth Day meant something because the rivers and air were nasty in 1970 and getting worse. By 2000, the US had literally cleaned up its act.

The fact that the environmentalist watermelons overlook developing countries and keep their focus on the US is proof that Erf Day has lost its purpose. Just as this Pope has lost his purpose.

Sort of.

Some of us live downstream from major (liberal, Democrat ruled) cities. I live 120 miles south of Minneapolis/St Paul. The Mississippi River can get quite nasty down here after a big rain or during the heat of the summer.

The MN DNR fishing regulations list the Mississippi River as a "don't eat the fish" body of water. They frequently advise against swimming due to high bacteria counts during the summer.

Meanwhile, small farm manure spills are big news in the local paper while the Democrat polluted Mississippi is ignored.
