The U.K.'s Standard reports on the now burgeoning trans-speciesism movement, composed of people who feel they are actually dogs, cats, penguins, etc, who will most certainly be pushing for full legal rights in the near future.
The slippery slope is more like a cliff whose edge goes straight into chaotic darkness. The Bible was 100% correct to predict that the last days would be characterized be lawlessness (Matthew 24:12, Revelation 9:21, 2 Thessalonians 2:7, 2 Thessalonians 2:3, Daniel 8:23, Matthew 13:41). Complete governmental control of all amoral aspects of life (education, taxes, guns, farming, monetary policy, etc) and virtually no government control of truly moral issues (abortion, marriage, obscenity, pornography, euthanasia, narcotic abuse, religious freedom, etc).
Mid-1800s: Uniformitarianism and Darwinian Evolution take root, institutional church largely fails to respond.
In the late 1800s / early 1900s leads to Social Darwinism, which destroys the traditional Judeo-Christian moral market structure.
Early 1900s: uniformitarian thought begins taking over most places of higher learning in the West, the institutional church again largely fails to respond.
In the 1920s/30s/40s leads to eugenics and ultimately the secularization of Europe. Tens of millions are killed including Jews, the mentally ill, the handicapped, and other "undesirables". The institutional church responds too late.
Mid-1900s: the institutional church remains as impotent as ever and the rapid secularization of the United States ensues (Scopes, McCollum, Engel v. Vitale, Abington).
In the 1970s leads to legalized murder (Roe v. Wade), which had already been spreading around the world (i.e. in the Soviet Union). Since then there have been nearly 60 million unborn murders in the U.S. and nearly 1.5 billion worldwide.
1980s: having largely abandoned the historicity of Genesis, the institutional church begins questioning other doctrines including the exclusivity of the Gospel, the physical resurrection of Christ, inerrancy, and basic Biblical morality (divorce, homosexuality, etc).
In 1990s leads to rapid growth of inter-faith organizations, global governance, and universalism. The Church finally becomes politically sidelined around the world.
2000s: so acutely influenced by culture, the institutional church enters terminal-apostasy phase. Rapid succession of denominations endorsing gay marriage, theistic evolution, no-fault divorce, and other vices. Gay marriage becomes legalized in a number of countries.
2010s: the slippery slope becomes unstoppable, except by an act of God Himself (and He will act, I guarantee it). A slue of countries and states legalize gay marriage, including the United States. Polls and surveys show a large plurality of "Christians" in the West endorsing universalism, abortion, gay marriage, transgenderism, and every vice. Top Christian leaders begin calling subtly and sometimes blatantly for universalism and acceptance of abominations (Pope Francis, Brian McLaren, Tony Campolo, Rick Warren, Rob Bell, and innumerable others). Outright Christian persecution begins in the West, outside of the 10/40 Window. Christians and pastors losing their jobs and businesses, mocked at work, mocked at home, and even mocked at their local churches. Threatened with jail and sometimes even jailed. Legalization of gay marriage and mind-altering narcotics, leads to any kind of moral law being derided. Biological and gender norms begin being abolished. Transgenderism encouraged and accepted. And now... trans-speciesism. We are now staring into an abyss where nothing can be distinguished, with no order, no beauty, no intrinsic value to anything, where everything is the same, entirely relative, and equally corrupted and worthless.
This is the slippery slope. Welcome to the kingdom of antichrist. The temporal and eternal consequences will be more than you can possibly imagine.

I must confess to being a lifelong fan of traditional anthropmorphic "talking beast" fiction and wouldn't mind being able to visit such a world.

I disagree. I think the trajectory is toward complete government control of moral issues. The goal is for morality to conform to the whims of those who govern. To accomplish this, traditional morality must be cast aside.
Believe it or not, I've never read any Redwall books. I grew up on stuff like Uncle Remus' Brer Rabbit stories, Kipling's Jungle Book, and Wind in the Willows. I've even read the Silverwing series (because bats!!!). I don't get out much any more; if I did I could check a Redwall book out of the library, I suppose.

I was traveling in my vehicle, listening to the radio, talk radio in fact, and a speaker that was on expressed her views about a “news” story that has surfaced about a man that wrote a book called Dolphin Lover. I checked and it is out in print form, and film form. Stunned.
A 15 minute documentary is found at the links that appear when searching the www using the term Dolphin Lover.
It is proof positive that we have went over the cliff, and it’s down hill from here on out.
