1 Thess 1:9 For they themselves relate of us, what manner of entering in we had unto you; and how you turned to God from idols, to serve the living and true God. 10 And to wait for his Son from heaven (whom he raised up from the dead,) Jesus, who hath delivered us from the wrath to come.
Now before you spittle out some haughty effort at insult, try reasoning out why Paul put that in the past tense for the Thessalonians. This is the same epistle in which he will detail the Rapture of the True Church, the Body of Christ, The Bride of Christ, over in chapter four.
