That was the law, so of course it’s correct. You may not like it, and I don’t care for it either, but for that nation and that period of time, the law had a very specific purpose. It was intended to ultimately drive them to Christ. The law demands absolute perfection, which is impossible. God’s law shows us our utter inability to save ourselves and our need for Christ. Unlike men, Christ kept every jot and tittle of the law perfectly. Most don’t seem to understand this, but His lifetime of active obedience to the law was just as necessary as His death on the cross to secure salvation for His people.
