Would not, then, the words of Our Lord have first been preserved in Hebrew or Aramaic?

I think it is Latin. Which I imagine is why the Catholic bible is written in that language.

Latin was the popular tongue of the Roman Church. The Scriptures were translated into Latin in the 2rd century.Jerome was tasked by the pope to do a better version in the late 4th century. This was the Vulgate which is still the official version of the Roman Church.
