The adoration of Mary has so many contradictory notions wrapped into it that The Real Mary Mother of Jesus is mutated. Mary was already espouse to Joseph, which means she was already under vows to that union; when catholiciism calls Mary the spouse of God, they twist her into a person breaking her vows to Joseph. That false title also has a demonic twist inherent in it ... spouse of someone she gestated in her womb? Really? Catholics can't see that glaring heresy?

Nothing in this world is too big to fail.The religious leaders of Jesus' day imagined themselves immune to some 'Johnny-come-lately' preacher.It seems they thought themselves and their traditions too big to fail.After all,they had God's assurance,any who disobeyed them,disobeyed God!
Unfortunately for them they had strayed so far from the truth they could no longer wield it in their defense.So they got all snarky instead.
