Actually since what we call Catholicism refers to an system that is a result of a process of continued deformation then these so-called church "fathers" themselves evidenced this, with some (as they were not uniform in all their beliefs, or all supportive of RC doctrines) sometimes sounding like they held Scripture as supreme and other times invoking traditional norms (including errant interpretations of Scripture) as the basis for True doctrine or practice. The latter resulted in an accretion of errors becoming perpetuated.
