Absolutely!
I miss him.
Every single day. :(
Yes, I do miss Pope Paul II. Yesterday my husband brought him up as being the antithesis of the revolutionary as pope and steeped in Latin American progressivism.
The liberation theologist from Peru, Gustavo Gutiérrez, a Peruvian theologian and Dominican priest, once considered by the Vatican as a dangerous Marxist firebrand was recently a special guest speaker at the Vatican, the understanding which is that Bergoglio accepts him.
Just to remind everyone what this brand of South American communism is like, here is a definition:
>> liberation theology a distinctly Latin American movement preached that it was not enough for the church to simply empathise and care for the poor. Instead, believers said, the church needed to be a vehicle to push for fundamental political and structural changes that would eradicate poverty, even some believed if it meant supporting armed struggle against oppressors.
Now this is what Pope John Paul did:
>>During that visit Ernesto Cardenal, a priest and minister in the Sandinista government, knelt to kiss his hand. John Paul withdrew it, wagged his finger in Cardenal’s face, and told him, “You must straighten out your position with the church.”
And now, we have a liberation theologist as the vicar of Christ. Such a terrible shame.
(Fervently) YES!!
Is this not the Pope who publicly kissed the Koran, with lips that kisses the Bible, when he visited Istanbul?
Sorry to mention it, but it still sticks in my craw.
