Yes and he became pope under the most unusual of circumstances.
I don't know what you mean by "conservative" Catholic.
The Latin Mass has already been banned once and this pope would seem to like to see traditionalists bite the dirt.
The Latin mass was never banned; in fact, it was specifically encouraged during the course of Vatican II and again during JPII’s and Benedict’s papacies. But because the idea of local-language mass WASN’T banned, the sheer newness of the freedom to say and participate in an essentially Latin-free liturgy quickly superseded any Vatican encouragements to retain the Latin.
A “conservative” Catholic is basically an orthodox traditionalist—often, but not always, a supporter of the tridentine mass. In general, I suppose, a fifties Catholic.
His peer group and the Holy Ghost. I admit it’s not easy to understand this particular vote, but, as I said earlier, it’s far from the first time we’ve had a less-than-perfect human sitting in The Chair. It just doesn’t matter until he speaks from that chair officially. So far, Francis hasn’t.
I’ve taken to calling him “The Red Pope”.
