I think the comment about India, near the end, is romanticizing to a very large extent. The social pathologies of India ... rape, abortion and infanticide, child prostitution and abuse, inter-communal violence on a large scale, massive corruption, abandonment of the elderly and handicapped ... are far from unique to India. However, they are not consistent with this rose-colored attribution of joyful spiritual advancement.
The point is that what happens if we make over such societies in the image of what the editors of, say, The Economist,think good?
