If the people making these predictions are correct then this fall there should be a calamity of Biblical proportions. If it passes quietly then they are people who are not interested in anything but selling books.

That’s right, but what I and my friend felt the Lord telling us isn’t about selling books.
I would absolutely beware of any specific predictions.
I am very skeptical.
But it’s correct that if we’re prepared and nothing happens, we’re fine.

That challenge bears repeating.
In a couple months the followers of these prophets of doom will have the opportunity to determine whether this "word from God" is really from God or from Satan, and to choose whom to follow.
And should the publishers refuse to refund their money, they can do as the Ephesian disciples did in
Acts 19:19.
(That entire chapter is instructive as to the two differing responses to the
real word from God.)
