Thanks Jim. It’s not my thing but from what I have read there has been a lot of critique of the pope, too. For clarity, does this ban include critique of the pope?

I don’t know what Jim will say, but personally I don’t have any problem telling the difference between (a) noting with disfavor liberal positions taken by the pope and the Catholic hierarchy and (b) trashing the Catholic faith and those who believe it.

I was actually wondering the same thing. I like Catholics and I’ve got no problems with the religion, but this pope is pretty edgy.

Are we allowed to question the pope?

(I happen to know that quite a few Catholics are bothered by him as well.)

IMHO a lot of the knee jerk Pope bashing is simply Catholic bashing with a political bent. I suggest that unless someone has read the actually full quote or sermon or encyclical on the Vatican website, that he or she refrain. The secular press loves this dissension. So does the devil.
