Calling all Christians to unite together in prayer tonight at 11:00 EST.
We know the effectiveness of prayer (James 5:13-18). After our Lord had ascended the church had gathered in the upper room. Acts 1:14 tells us "these all with one mind were continually devoting themselves to prayer...."
We may recall when Peter was in jail the church was praying fervently to God for him. The Lord sent an angel to free Peter (Acts 12:1-7).
I can think of no other course of action for the followers of Christ than to cry out to Him at this time.

"I love the thought of millions reaching out to The Father all at the same time, but isnt it like asking Him to change His mind about what He has already decreed? He told us we would degenerate into a cesspool before Jesus returns to set things right. I will expend my money and my vote and my words to help foster Christian Conservatism, but will not ask Him to go back on His Word." Your post strikes a particular chord with me, and I'll tell you why.
Last night at just after eleven, I joined the prayer. I tried to pray for the nation, but I got a distinct feeling---conviction, I should say---to not do so. So I stopped.
Instead I prayed for the people of this country who love God and follow him. Doing that produced no negative response.
So you could very well be right.

Same here. I am, for some reason, comforted by such prayers.

It has been suggested that instead of 11:00 PM EST that each FReeper pray according to their own time zone.
Didn't think about the time zones and how late some would have to stay up. Sorry about that. Regardless of what time we pray, He hears our prayers!
It has also been suggested we continue to do this on a regular basis.
Suggested things to pray for:
1) God's will in all of our lives
2) Salvation of the lost and opportunities to share the Gospel with them
3) Leaders of this Republic
4) Each other
What we're doing reminds me of what the early church did right after Pentecost (Acts 1:42). Too bad we can't all get together and break some bread!

I wonder if we’ve reached a turning point from which there’s no coming back.

The country? Probably. The 'Remnant' will be just fine...we know EXACTLY where we are going, and I'm not the slightest bit worried. Not to say I'm not angry over recent events...I am human, after all. :-)
I garden, where I find peace. Where does everyone else find peace?

That’s exactly why I think I was allowed to pray for those of us who side with God.
You ask a lovely question at a time like this. :)
Praying always brings peace, of course. I also like to turn on music and hop on the treadmill. I love to read. And there are couple of TV shows I follow and lose myself in.

Thats exactly why I think I was allowed to pray for those of us who side with God. Those are precisely the people who need prayer.
I also like to turn on music and hop on the treadmill.
My wife hounds me for a treadmill...she needs exercise to manage her blood sugar...doctors are always shocked to discover she's diabetic because she's not overweight...even so; they say she needs exercise, so maybe it's time for me to cave. :-)

I believe it. Yes. No going back. Just stay close in praying and reading scriptures. Seek and we will find.

I prayed for my Nation at 0100 EST. I do hope others are with me.
GOD answers prayers in a way we do not always understand.

Thank you for the response about the prayer event. It comforts me to know God is in charge and constant and I need to learn to love/belief/trust Him more fully if I am to keep from falling into despair for the world. I have taken up the habit of addressing my issues several times a day by praying, "I believe Lord; help my unbelief". It describes my dilemma and serves as a way to remind me that Jesus gave us a personal relationship which can include "banter" if that helps us interact with Him.
God Bless

I’ve had that exact feeling before when I’ve tried to pray for our country. Like things are set in place and in motion that cannot be stopped now so there’s no point in praying for it because it won’t change anything.
