I’m not surprised.
We are not saved by faith and kept by works.
It’s faith and grace all the way.
We can’t get ourselves saved and we can’t keep ourselves saved because if sin is what causes us to lose our salvation, there’s not a person on the planet who can accomplish that.
It’s an on again off again salvation, never knowing if you’ve done enough to earn God’s favor and merit heaven.
Galatians 3 addresses that.

We are not saved by faith and kept by works.

We are saved by Jesus Christ. Jesus judges our works and He will decide who He gives His grace too.
James 1:
14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?
17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
You can't get around that. The text is plain and simple. If you teach anything other than this, you are not teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ.
