Ok....when catholics tell me this why would they lie?

Nancy Pelousy, John Kerry, Ted Kennedy... All support abortions.

Maybe your friends are as poorly catechized as the people claiming to be ex-Catholics here.

Maybe they just like the Churches teaching.

We can speculate till the cows come home.

It’s sad that catholics seem to take greater pride in being properly catechized than in knowing the Word.

Short retention span.

By the time the entire thing is read, some of the words are already forgotten.

Saved or not saved:

Pope Stephen VI (896–897), who had his predecessor Pope Formosus exhumed, tried, de-fingered, briefly reburied, and thrown in the Tiber.[1]

Pope John XII (955–964), who gave land to a mistress, murdered several people, and was killed by a man who caught him in bed with his wife.

Pope Benedict IX (1032–1044, 1045, 1047–1048), who "sold" the Papacy

Pope Boniface VIII (1294–1303), who is lampooned in Dante's Divine Comedy

Pope Urban VI (1378–1389), who complained that he did not hear enough screaming when Cardinals who had conspired against him were tortured.[2]

Pope Alexander VI (1492–1503), a Borgia, who was guilty of nepotism and whose unattended corpse swelled until it could barely fit in a coffin.[3]

Pope Leo X (1513–1521), a spendthrift member of the Medici family who once spent 1/7 of his predecessors' reserves on a single ceremony[4]

Pope Clement VII (1523–1534), also a Medici, whose power-politicking with France, Spain, and Germany got Rome sacked.

Keep dreaming and putting down your faith if it makes you feel better.
And yes you’re a Catholic whether you want to accept that fact or not.

Might as well compile it and save some of the repetition!

Honestly, E, it isn't pride. It's that former Catholics come in knocking the Church they chose to leave, when they knew little about it in the first place as evidenced by their posts.

Saved or not saved:

Elsie's list of naughty popes

The current pope.

Priests who've committed pedaphilia

The catholic who gets drunk on the weekend, or weeknight?

The catholic who relies upon Mary making intercession to Christ on their behalf?

Naaahhh, I still say it's Noah's fault... That's also my theory on dinosaurs. They couldn't fit in the Ark, and Noah and his family had enough to contend with, so God mercifully eschewed keeping the dinosaurs, and created fossil fuel... 🐲

Instead, He gave us bugs... 🐛🐜 (((shudder again)))

Bottom line here is it's up to God, no matter who it is.

My take on the original post is that the people named profess to be saved; have their own organizations with infrastructures and a lot of money; are often dissed-especially Osteen- by many of our posters, yet quote Scripture chapter and verse, as we see here, and are sola scriptura.

Being that a lot of our posters deny affiliation, do they think these people, who proclaim themselves saved, actually are? And, no kidding, why don't people here seem to like Joel Osteen very much?

Genuine observation and question...

Actually, you can know if you're saved. John tells us that in both his gospel and 1 John 5:13. Granted there are days we may not feel saved, but we are if we have faith in Christ.

And, no kidding, why don't people here seem to like Joel Osteen very much?

Osteen preaches the "health and wealth" Gospel. God wants you to be healthy all the time and wealthy. His teachings on this matter take the verses out of context and wrongly apply them.

Notice that the disciples gave up everything to follow Christ. Paul notes the same in Galatians. He totally gave up his prior life. From the records we have in the NT Paul's life was not one of tremendous comfort.

Osteen rarely discusses sin and the implications of sin. He seems more inclined to tell you how to have a happy day. There's nothing wrong with being positive, but that's all he focuses on.

On some of the interviews I've seen him on he's been hesitant to declare faith in Christ, and only Christ, as the way to salvation.

You presume full grown dinosaurs and other animals were on the ark. The Bible does not indicate how old they were. Remember, only two were needed...male and female.
