Speaking of keeping people ignorant of history, have the Lutherans started doing Sunday readings of “On the Jews and Their Lies” yet?

While we're discussing people who are ignorant of history, let's go back a hundred years further, to a day when anger against the Jews was more than just words. Let me know if any of this sounds familiar:

In Salzburg, which was non-secular and ruled by a Catholic Prince-Archbishop not overly pleased about non-Catholic residents of any kind, Jews were expelled in 1492 and prevented from permanent settlement until the 19th century. Emperor Maximilian I banned Jews from Styria and Carinthia on request of local guilds in 1496 and relocated to the Eastern edge of the Empire in Zistersdorf near Eisenstadt. From 1551, Jews had to wear a yellow spot on their clothing every time they entered market towns or cities.

Other than a nice zinger, why would you ask if Lutherans read that in church?

Luther is not a prophet. He is one of the writer's of the Lutheran confessional document: the Book of Concord. Additionally, Luther's small catechism is an amazing summary of christian belief.

Lutherans believe that all men are sinful. We are not surprised or offended that people are flawed. We take the wheat and leave the chaff.

That people have taken Luther out of context and done horrible things doesn't surprise us. By context, I mean by understanding all of his writings and how they fit together. How many horrible things have been done in the name of God? This happens throughout history.

If you want to compare Luther with the bad Popes or even some of the good Popes, I'd welcome the comparison. Ever heard of the Pope's pear?

Many people are born into muslim families or societies through no fault of their own, and yet are moved spiritually toward God. Muhammed co-opted many of the religious best practices of his day from Christianity, Judaism and the local Pagan practices. Those practices can be spiritually fruitful. Regular prayer can change people for the better.

Yep.....those principles of Jihad are found all over the Bible. NOT!

You really have a distorted understanding of Islam.

Lutheran didn’t introduce anti-Semitism into Christianity. It was a longtime Catholic practice.
