Millions of sincere Catholics wear the brown scapular thinking by doing so it will help them spiritually. They believed the report that Mary made and is backing a salvation promise in connection with the brown scapular hundreds of years ago based on their religious traditions. Over the years wearing the brown scapular has been perpetuated by sincere Catholic leaders, such as the one in this video, but it is in complete futility that it is worn. It is a false hope and a spiritual snare. It is not based on Gods truth and is, therefore, just as deadly for the sincere Catholic as it is for the Hindu who bathes in the Ganges River thinking his sins will be washed away in the water or for the Muslim who kisses the black stone of Kaaba to be forgiven! [The picture to the right is Mel Gibson, the director of the Passion of Christ, wearing a brown scapular as he smokes.]
I too once wore the brown scapular as an Ex Roman Catholic. I know what it is like to be taught something and accept it as truth to find out later it is not only unscriptural, but anti-scriptural. It hurts, but TRUTH is what we must stand on to be safe. It takes humility in such cases to turn.
NOTE: At about 2:23 time-wise into the video, the speaker is quoted below. How could anyone deny that Mary is deified in Catholicism? Surely, this rampant idolatry is grieving to the Lord Jesus Christ and God the Father. This is what Catholicism teaches about the brown scapular:
And so, wearing of the brown scapular reminds us, should remind us, of three things. First, that we are children of Mary. Second of all, that we need to work for our Lady. And finally, it should be a garment of humility and penance. First, by the brown scapular we profess ourselves to be children of Mary. The scapular of our Lady is a badge or a uniform so to speak by which we profess to whom we belong and who we serve. Likewise, our Lady in turn by wearing the brown scapular, she recognizes us as her children, as her special children. And because of that, she consequently protects us and watches over us. The brown scapular should also remind us that we need to work for our Lady because the scapular, which means shoulder garment, was originally that, it was a garment worn by religious in order to protect their habit, their religious habit that they wore on a daily basis during those periods of work to keep it from getting dirty, stained, from ripping, etc. and so therefore the scapular is a working garb. And so this should remind us that theres no room for lazy piety. If we wear the brown scapular and we consider ourselves our Ladys children, theres no place for lazy piety but rather we should fill our lives with good works. This brown scapular should remind us the need to faithfully fulfill our daily duties, and to make another adaptation of Scripture, to labor as good soldiers of the Immaculate. Finally, the third place, the brown scapular is also a garment of humility and of penance. So in a spirit of penance, we should accept all the difficulties of our state of life and all the sufferings that our Lady may want to send us. And the scapular will give us the strength to do this. In all of our difficulties, we can always grab onto our brown scapular, remind ourselves of our Ladys protection, her watchfulness, her presence and especially at the moment of death, when we can call to mind our Ladys promise of salvation. Our Lady of Mount Carmel, pray for us.
* Not a single word about Jesus was mentioned there.
* The brown scapular is 100% religious mythology and idolatry, as Mary is deified as a type of Savior.
* No Bible light shines from such brown scapular Catholic tradition.
Bye.
Quick question, Jim.
Why is it permissible to make nasty, sweeping, unfounded, bigoted characterizations of entire religious sects, but addressing the specific actions and posts of a particular writer is considered “personal,” regardless of accuracy, and gets deleted.
Does this policy not seem to be in need of review?
Debate the issues all you wish on open debate threads, but do not make it personal.
I think all you’ll get is a form letter.
We're not supposed to read intent into a posting...else some run off to the moderator in a heartbeat.
But as you intended it to be a joke, it will be received in that manner.
Not ignorance. I make no apologies for the corruption and heresies of the worst years of the Holy Roman Empire. Nor will I cite some choice quotes from Luther in an attempt to deflect, since my intention is not to defend all things Roman (let alone Austrian).
I personally believe Luther was a scourge born of that Roman corruption. A chastisement, if you will, for an out of control institution willfully abusing the name and Holy Sacrifice of Our Lord. That’s just the way I see the myriad schisms and confusion of the Reformation. I think having Christendom shattered into over 40,000 pieces is a bad thing. A really bad thing. And I don’t think God chastises the whole for the actions of one. For it to come to this, I’m pretty sure all parties concerned had (and still have) something very serious to answer for.
I also believe Rome is approaching similar levels of corruption and heresy today, as are all Christian denominations. And it’s fairly obvious another chastisement is at hand. As Luther was the scourge in the 16th century, Islam will be a far greater scourge in the century ahead.
The good news is, we know from Matthew 16:18 how it ends. The gates of hell don’t prevail. But it’s going to be rough ride before it’s all said and done.
At this point, no. It’s just superfluous semantics now.
Why is that directed at me? I said not one word of what you quoted.

Antagonism though not encouraged, should be expected
Posters may argue for or against beliefs, deities, religious authorities, etc. They may tear down others beliefs. They may ridicule. Open RF debate is often contentious.
It requires thick skin. A poster must be able to make his points while standing his ground, suffering adverse remarks about his beliefs - or letting them roll off his back.
Members of religions which are as much culture as belief sometimes take religious debate personally. If you keep getting your feelings hurt because other posters ridicule or disapprove or hate what you hold dear, then you are too thin-skinned to be involved in open RF debate. You should IGNORE open RF threads altogether and instead post to RF threads labeled prayer devotional caucus or ecumenical.

This post has a different tone than other of your posts and is one I appreciate and am in agreement.
Disagree about the comparison of Luther’s “scourge” to militant Islam, though. Above all, Luther remained what he was as long as he was permitted to be...a Roman Catholic.
Yes....ha ha. I am not that much of an ogre. While we might not see eye to eye on religion, I am confident we both love our families and our pets. Life it way, way too short to get worked up these days.
It is a spectacular Saturday and I hope you are enjoying your weekend!
The point is that the vast majority of Lutherans are unaware of much of what Luther put his name to, yet they call themselves Lutherans anyway.
It was in response to someone calling Catholics ignorant. It wasn’t an unprovoked zinger.
You know..people have zinged me.. we are grown ups.. as has been said "If you can not stand the heat get out of the kitchen "
