What is “word of mouth” teaching that you are so worried about?

How are you sure anything claimed to be “word of mouth” from the apostles really is?

What is missing out of Scripture that your claimed “word of mouth” teaching needs to fill in?

Show us where Scripture uses the word “catholic”.

See here and tell me again how God didn't intend for His word to be written

Cite chapter and verse where Christ told his disciples to write anything down, and where the apostles said their faith would be based on a book.

Rom_10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Do you honestly think scripture could have been passed on from generation to generation without writing it down??? How did your religion get any scripture??? Someone wrote it down...And then copied it...And copied it...

The fact that disciples were writing and it became the inspired words of God would seem enough evidence that God wanted his words preserved...

Psa 12:6 The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
Psa 12:7 Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.

How did God preserve his words in the Old Testament??? He had them written down...So how would God preserve his words in the New Testament??? So that they could be preached from generation to generation???

You really ought to remove that question from your Catholic talking points...It makes you guys look really goofy...

John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

John 17:17 Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.

Answer the questions.

What’s the word of mouth teachings that are not in Scripture.

And telling us to read Scripture is NOT an answer because Catholicism claims they are word of mouth aka tradition, and weren’t included in Scripture.

So what are they? How do you know? How do you know they were passed down faithfully?

What are your sources for such knowledge and please post them for verification purposes.

What I mean is this: One of you says, "I follow Paul"; another, "I follow Apollos"; another, "I follow Cephas"; still another, "I follow Christ."1Cor 1:10

And yet your religion admittedly follows Cephas and Mary...Go figure...

Oh, I had plenty of help-daughter,sil,gs,gd, friends, etc. I am not the type to let others do all the work. My granddaughter came up after work and yelled at me for picking up heavy boxes! Most of the kitchen, dining room, guest bedroom, bathrooms and my bedroom are just about done. Thank God. I dislike moving with a passion. I told everyone I never realized I had so much stuff in the townhouse. It seemed to multiply! Cable is coming out tomorrow. I miss my music. Thanks.

What doctrines do Protestants here agree on?

Salvation by grace through faith in the finished work of Christ on the cross, with works of righteousness being the fruit of a regenerated spirit.

Ephesians 2:1-10And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.

But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

That same Jesus Christ left His Apostles with the power to perform miracles and annoint others to do so whether the "Bible believing" Self and Self Alone crowd want to admit that Jesus Christ still works "magic" through those who have been anointed by the Apostles or not.

Like Benny Hinn, eh???

But no, Jesus did not work thru the apostles...They did their own healing with their own power that Jesus gave them...

When your priests start raising dead people and healing people of cancer, c'mon back...Then we'll talk...

Cite chapter and verse where Christ told his disciples to write anything down, and where the apostles said their faith would be based on a book.

Revelation 1:9-11 I, John, your brother and partner in the tribulation and the kingdom and the patient endurance that are in Jesus, was on the island called Patmos on account of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus. I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet saying,

“Write what you see in a book and send it to the seven churches, to Ephesus and to Smyrna and to Pergamum and to Thyatira and to Sardis and to Philadelphia and to Laodicea.”

Revelation 1:17-19 When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. But he laid his right hand on me, saying,

“Fear not, I am the first and the last, and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades. Write therefore the things that you have seen, those that are and those that are to take place after this.

Revelation 2:1 “To the angel of the church in Ephesus write:

Revelation 2:8 “And to the angel of the church in Smyrna write:

Revelation 2:12 “And to the angel of the church in Pergamum write:

Revelation 2:18 “And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write:

Revelation 3:1 “And to the angel of the church in Sardis write:

Revelation 3:7 “And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write:

Revelation 3:14 “And to the angel of the church in Laodicea write:

Where did Jesus tell us that our faith would be based on a committee?

I'd sooner believe that Christ's church is based on HIM than some of these guys.....

If the following is an example of the *infallibility* of the magisterium or whatever committee they use in picking the next pope in their alleged apostolic succession, then I'll pass on Catholicism, thank you very much.

I wouldn't trust the judgment of any organization which couldn't do better than this.....

The security of the believer, you say?

John 5:24 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.

John 10:25-30 Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in my Father's name bear witness about me, but you do not believe because you are not among my sheep. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand. I and the Father are one.”

1 Corinthians 1:4-8 I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that was given you in Christ Jesus, that in every way you were enriched in him in all speech and all knowledge—even as the testimony about Christ was confirmed among you—so that you are not lacking in any gift, as you wait for the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will sustain you to the end, guiltless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

2 Corinthians 1:21-22 And it is God who establishes us with you in Christ, and has anointed us, and who has also put his seal on us and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.

2 Corinthians 5:4-8 For while we are still in this tent, we groan, being burdened—not that we would be unclothed, but that we would be further clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.

So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight. Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord.

Ephesians 1:13-14 In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.

Ephesians 4:30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

Colossians 1:13-14 He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Colossians 2:13-14 And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.

Colossians 3:3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

1 Peter 1:3-5 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

2 Corinthians 1:21-22 Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God; Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.

For which the Greek, from the Byzantine, is:

2Corinthians 1:21-22 ο δε βεβαιων ημας συν υμιν εις χριστον και χρισας ημας θεος ο και σφραγισαμενος ημας και δους τον αρραβωνα του πνευματος εν ταις καρδιαις ημων

The first word in bold above is “bebaion,” the idea of confirmation, frequently used in commercial settings to confirm a bargain. Which of course makes sense of the remaining terms used here, which are also elements of a secured contract.

The second word in bold above is “sphragisamenos,” being sealed is to be marked by the signature, signet ring, or other unique proof of identity, that we belong to God, and this sealing is done by God, who is the one taking action in this verse. We do not and cannot seal ourselves. We do not, by our own powers, have access to God’s “signet ring.”

The third bolded word above is “arrabona,” and indicates what we might loosely refer to as earnest money, but in Hebrew culture conveys more the idea of a pledge of covenant, a security given as a guarantee that the deal will go through, though we only receive part payment at the beginning. See ערב for the related Hebrew stem indicating “pledge.”

Actually, you’re right.

I stand corrected.

I’m not sure what Prots believe.

It’s just that generally, when RC’s use the term “Prot” they are referring to those of us born again believers who post here, since there are virtually no mainline Prots who post on the RF, but rather us born again believers.

If we cannot know that assurance...which we can....the rest would be meaningless really.... Why would you trust what Jesus said if that assurance isn’t ours?

“I write these things that you may KNOW you have eternal life”....

Not guess or wonder....but Know.
