We ask the saints to pray for us because God wills us to pray for each other --to intercede for each other. Because we are all part of the Body of Christ.
Intercessory prayer is mentioned many times in Scripture.
2 Corinthians 1:11Nothing can separate us from the love of God or divide the Body of Christ. And so the saints in heaven offer our prayers to God.you also joining in helping us through your prayers, so that thanks may be given by many persons on our behalf for the favor bestowed on us through the prayers of many.
Philippians 1:19
for I know that this will turn out for my deliverance through your prayers and the provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,
Psalms 122:6
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: "May they prosper who love you.
Isaiah 62:6-7
