Not to rain on anyone’s parade or anything, but the assertion that there were no priests in the earliest age of the Church is partially correct. There were bishops and deacons originally, then the Church grew too large for one bishop to serve all the people in his city (and surrounding area) so bishops began ordaining men to serve as sort of a bishop-lite for the growing number of Christian faithful.
Those are the men we call priests, they do not enjoy the fullness of holy orders and their authority and responsibilities are delegated to them by their bishops.
