1) Jesus was not putting Mary down, he was deflecting a reductively biological view. Mary is certainly included in --- I would say leading the line --- in hearing the word of God and keeping it. She heard the Word directed to her and kept it so deeply she got pregnant. She received this Word in her heart before she received Him in her womb.

2) God forbids consulting with mediums and spiritists --- some translations say sorcerers and necromancers --- because they conjured (or said they conjured) the presence of spirits, and went to them for fortune-telling. God forbids conjuring and fortune-telling. He does not forbid asking other members of the Body of Christ to help us spiritually, because we do depend on each other spiritually. That's the very meaning of "Body of Christ."

IN fact, Paul says you should never say you don't need them. " The eye cannot say to the hand, "I don't need you!" And the head cannot say to the feet, "I don't need you!"" (1 Corinthians 12:21)
