The very dictionary definition of grace is “unmerited favor.” The contextual definition of the Greek “charis” is “favour/gift.” The Hebrew “chen” is pretty much identical in definition. Grace comes first, granting the gifts of repentance (2 Tim. 2:25) and faith (Eph. 2:8). Works are then the consequence of our repentance and faith. Works are not what save our souls. Rather, they’re evidence our souls are saved.

For instance, what’s a work? And what is not a work?
