Maybe descriptions of Hell are so horrific to keep people from thinking about how hellish popular versions of the Christian Heaven would beeven without Pat Robertson in the mix.
Most Westerners are at least vaguely familiar with the popular Christian version of Heaven: pearly gates, streets of gold, winged angels and the Righteous, with their bodies made perfect and immortal, singing the praises of God forever. Whats surprising is how few people have actually thought about what a nightmare this kind of existence would be.

I hear you.
I’m not a Jew but I’m not an experience junkie and have always been very skeptical of them, especially people who have them all the time.
Its not Heaven, but “The New Jerusalem” i.e. New Earth that is described.
The author need not worry anyway, she’ll be heading outward to “outer darkness.”
.
so enlighten to all truth is hell ....while ignorance is bliss...sounds like leftest thinking to me...
Problem with atheists is they have an immature infantile less then a 5 year old in sunday school, understanding of what is God....
Thier concept of God really is some sky god Flying Spaghetti Monster boogie man...its completely with out depth of understanding..
They neither think on God nor seek God so they really have no knowledge of what God is
Rod Sterling had a show storyline which was vaguely similar to this same idea.
It involved an old hunter and his hunting dog.
Why would I want streets of gold if I could not use that to get food, drink and sex?
I am sure just hanging out with God, grooving to the torment of those in hell.
This version of heaven they are trying to sell does not seem to be much fun.
Wonderful post, and reminder that many who are first in this life will be last in the next, and vice versa!
Seems like a good time to link to this wonderful a capella version of Po Lazarus by the Fairfield Four (they have five members in this video, and YouTube misspells the group's name). This performance is from a benefit concert by the many soundtrack artists from the film O Brother Where Art Thou.
To quote the great Yogi Berra, “If the world were perfect, it wouldn’t be.”
My informed opinion is this;
Think of the moment of your greatest JOY and you will have had a mere glimpse of Heaven.
Think of the moment of your deepest DESPAIR and you have had a mere glimpse of Hell.
As mortals, we can not comprehend GOD & Heaven or Satan & Hell. The puerile and facile popular myths of Heaven or Hell are folklore without any basis in God’s Word beyond descriptive prose. To base the desirability of Heaven on mortal terms is totally ludicrous and only serves the Minion of Evil.
One of my favorite old Far Side cartoons showed a guy with wings, harp and halo sitting on a cloud saying “Wish I’d brought a magazine”. It’s not going to be like that.
I don’t recall her quoting “Eye has not seen, ear has not heard...”
Her whole argument is childish. It’s similar to those jejune comments one hears occasionally: “I think Hell would be more fun than Heaven, because all my friends will be there.”
No surprise, she’a a baby-murderer. Get a load of her “credentials.” Yikes.
Isn’t she making Lucifer’s case here?
