I could see him saying something along the lines that Allah is another name for God. But I could not see anyone saying that Jesus Christ and Muhammed are two names for the same person. Even if you somehow syncretically believed the entire Bible and the entire Koran, you wouldn’t say they are the same person, anymore than you would say that King David and St Paul are two different names for the same person.

I think it was extremely sloppy of them to publish such an obviously fabricated quote.
Fair enough. I agree here. I think the comment that made me go, "Huh?" was the kissing the Koran part. I immediately had to go back and see if they meant JPII. I don't think Francis has ever kissed the Koran either (although it wouldn't surprise me if he did).
