Without defect, as they are part of the Ordinary Magesterium, that is correct.

Ecumenism was not taught ubique, semper et ab omnibus. To the contrary, it was condemned prior to Vatican II (a pastoral council only, thank God). A defective principle condemned by previous popes and rejected by the Ordinary Magisterium cannot be arbitrarily transformed into a teaching of the Ordinary Magisterium, since the Ordinary Magisterium can never contradict itself.

He thought the bishops were going in the wrong direction, and said so! He countered the “prevailing wisdom,” which promoted artificial contraception, etc. with the unchanging truth.

Unfortunately, the current Pope is acting as the instigator of attacks against Truth, and as a result, causing grave concern and confusion throughout the Church. The publication of the book, "Remaining in the Truth of Christ" which contains contributions from Cardinal Burke and other Cardinals and theologians is a praiseworthy effort to exert damage control. Thank God Cardinal Burke and his co-authors have not buried their heads in the sand. Those Catholics who promote a defective understanding of the Pope's authority -- namely that the Pope's authority extends to possessing the power to redefine the objective definition of mortal sin -- are leading others astray.

As of now, I continue to hear nothing but posturing, bickering, and backbiting.

Rather than disparaging those who recognize the serious problems confronting the Church at this time, please review Pascendi Dominici Gregis, Encyclical of Pope Pius X on the Doctrines of the Modernists, http://www.papalencyclicals.net/Pius10/p10pasce.htm

St. Pius X warned us about the enemies of Christ who attack His Church from within. Pope Pius X's insights provide a useful template by which to analyze the current state of affairs. To bury one's head in the sand in times of crisis is not a mark of virtue.
