Pro-lifers must overcome indifference with love, says Cardinal O'Malley at March for Life vigil
Cardinal Seán OMalley has said that indifference is the greatest enemy of the pro-life movement, adding that to change peoples hearts we must love them.
The cardinal was speaking at the March for Life vigil Mass at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Washington DC.
He cited Pope Franciss words at Lampedusa about the globalisation of indifference, and added that the pro-life movement was about overcoming that indifference, indifference to the suffering of a woman in a difficult pregnancy, indifference to the voiceless child who is destined to be part of the statistic of a million killed in the womb each year, indifferent to the poverty and suffering of so many.
To change that indifference, he said, we must learn to look on people with love. Cardinal OMalley said: An attitude of judgmental self-righteousness is not going to change peoples attitudes and save babies. We need to be the field hospital not Judge Judy. We need to be the merciful face of Christ in the way we promote adoption, aware of how difficult it is for birth mothers to choose that option. We also need to expand our outreach in Project Rachel to those whose lives have been devastated by abortion.
To change peoples hearts we must love them and they must realise that we care about them. They need the witness of our love and our joy. To evangelise is to be a messenger of joy, of good news.

Isn't this precisely what the pro-life movement is already doing?
Am I reading too much into this in thinking O'Malley's real target here is the issue of Holy Communion for Catholic politicians who support abortion "rights"? Isn't he saying that denying Holy Communion to these politicians is an example of "judgmental self-righteousness" and playing Judge Judy? I think he's saying that Pelosi will change her mind when she "feels the love".
The "field hospital" is for those who acknowledge their illness and wish to be cured. We're not yet at that stage with the likes of Pelosi. They don't see any need for a "field hospital", unless it's for us "deniers of women's rights".
He cited Pope Franciss words at Lampedusa about the globalisation of indifference, and added that the anti-slavery movement was about overcoming that indifference, indifference to the suffering of a plantation owner in a difficult harvest year, indifferent to the poverty and suffering of so many.
To change that indifference, he said, we must learn to look on people with love. Cardinal OMalley said: An attitude of judgmental self-righteousness is not going to change peoples attitudes and save slaves. We need to be the field hospital not Judge Judy. We need to be the merciful face of Christ in the way we promote emancipation, aware of how difficult it is for plantation owners to choose that option.
To change peoples hearts we must love them and they must realise that we care about them. They need the witness of our love and our joy. To evangelise is to be a messenger of joy, of good news.
He cited Pope Franciss words at Lampedusa about the globalisation of indifference, and added that the anti-Nazi movement was about overcoming that indifference, indifference to the suffering of a German in a difficult economy, indifferent to the poverty and suffering of so many.
To change that indifference, he said, we must learn to look on people with love. Cardinal OMalley said: An attitude of judgmental self-righteousness is not going to change peoples attitudes and save Jews. We need to be the field hospital not Judge Judy. We need to be the merciful face of Christ in the way we promote tolerance, aware of how difficult it is for Nazi death camp commanders to choose that option.
To change peoples hearts we must love them and they must realise that we care about them. They need the witness of our love and our joy. To evangelise is to be a messenger of joy, of good news.
Ya gotta love the way the Church leaders judge the pro-life movement, the fingers of accusation they point at them. If only they had this kind of attitude towards baby-killers and their supporters.
Cardinal O’Malley is a notorious hypocrite who hobnobs with pro-abortion politicians and allows them to receive Holy Communion, in direct violation of his sacred vows.
Cardinal O’Malley also promotes the falsehood that opposition to abortion and support for illegal “immigrant” rights are on the same moral plane.
An attitude of judgmental self-righteousness is not going to change peoples attitudes and save slaves. We need to be the field hospital not Judge Judy.”
Is that why he is so ingratiating toward pro-abort politicians, and so tolerant of the antics of the Lavender Mafia in his archdiocese? He’s presiding over a “field hospital” where the inmates control the asylum.
Since actions generally speak louder than words, it’s safe to conclude that abortion and perversion within the Church are lower priorities for him than advocacy for illegals.
Who was the idiot who invited O’Malley to speak on behalf of the unborn innocents?
