You’re not a Christian, are you?
I say that because your comment indicates you know nothing about the Gospel.
I don’t think you got all your oars in the water.
Just saying...
Rejoice in missing the holy spirit. This absence in you, is noted, by your lack of humble praise for other folks. Be kind, always.
Matthew 7:1 refers to hypocritical judgment, not all judging. Christians are in fact commanded to judge.
The Apostle Paul said: But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man (I Cor. 2:15).
Where God has clearly made His truth and will known believers should judge between truth and error, not only standing for what is right, but withstanding what is wrong (Eph. 6:11,13), and this often involves judging and withstanding persons involved.
Where is your knowledge of anything?
Thanks for sharing.
Also, you say "The Bible clearly teaches no man is justified (made right or just in the sight of God) through their deeds, but through faith (Romans 3:28). Sadly, most never understand this simple truth."
On the other hand, Jesus HIMSELF clearly states "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself. ... DO this, and you will live.
As well as, Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers? The expert in the law replied, The one who had mercy on him. Jesus told him, Go and DO likewise.
So do you see how easily stupid non-Christians can think they are following the teachings of Christ, can study His words, pray for His guidance and protection and mercy, strive to live as He taught them to live, teach His words to their children, and dedicate their entire lives to Him, all just to find out, in the end, that they were never Christians at all because they did not make the right short of verbal promise, and that actually all of their efforts to live their lives according to His teachings were just vile sins of pride which, in the end, got them thrown into eternal hell, to suffer with murderers and rapists forever and ever and ever?
It's a problem, lemme tellya. MLK wasn't the first to fry in hell for it, and he won't be the last.
FRiend.
So explaining the gospel is unkind? You have a peculiar idea of kindness. It would be much easier for me to let lost people go on their way. It’s much harder to take the time to share the truth, especially knowing it may sting in the moment. It’s awful to think about, but most people in this world are lost. All I can do is share the truth where I can and pray the Lord will take my meager efforts and use them for His service.
Sorry to tell you, but good works will NOT get you into heaven. Please read your Bible so that you can better understand what and who a Christian is - Jesus said that not everyone who says, Lord, Lord, will enter the Kingdom of heaven. Matthew 7:21. I’m not familiar with every aspect of MLK’s life, and will not judge whether or not he went to heaven. I know that he was an adulterer, and if you do some research, it will certainly open your eyes that MLK was not faithful to his wife.
And which comment would that be, FRiend?
What is a "good work"?
FRiend, you must be really new to FR.
According to most people on this site all the Catholics are not Christian.
But then again I am a Roman Catholic and they hate my guts. Of course - all in the name of Jesus.
With all of his imperfections its a good thing MLK became the main voice of the civil rights movement instead of Malcom X who would have triggered a violent race war and possibly influenced many more blacks to become muslim.
.45 Long Colt, I stand corrected. Explaining gospel is your forte. May God give me the understanding, you require. What I find hard is when I am lost, I am much less than anyone else. So, I pray to God for strength to follow His will. So far, that is the best I can try. Ain’t got to where I boss other folks around yet. Hope that never happens again. All the best to ya
"Discuss the issues all you want, but do not make it personal."
Thank you.
What is this, Common Core? No one was swearing or being out of line. Yet ask of a sudden a half-dozen posts of people discussing religious philosophy are erased without comment?
Do you have ANY idea hire Big Brother this is?! On Free Republic, no less!
My, My. Aren’t we a bit upset? The Bible is clear. Good works do not and cannot deliver a person to heaven. One can’t earn his way to heaven. The only way is through the grace of Jesus and it is free. It is no more complicated than that.
I'm upset because this thread was, IMHO, wrongly edited by the improper invocation of the "no personal attacks" rule concerning a religious-philosophical subject which requires people to express personal opinions ABOUT others personal opinions, because THAT'S THE SUBJECT!
As for what passes as YOUR personal opinion concerning this subject, I would ask you why you express it at all? For isn't it a "good work" to tell people that "good works" don't get you into heaven? So - are you promulgating this teaching out of egoic desire to be seen as a teacher, out are you doing it because Jesus taught you to spread this teaching? And if the latter, is that not "work," and how is it not "good"?
Do you know what "good works" ACTUALLY refers to, and why it is said to not only be inadequate, but also detrimental to the spiritual path? Because it is refering to the EGO. It is referring to doing something "for God" with the belief that the positive effect it has is a result of your personal effort - rather than being a success that results from God's Grace flowing through whatever you do. The difference is enormous, but it has nothing whatsoever to do with the idea that you don't have to make any effort. In fact, yo have to make massive, continuous effort - but offer all of it to God, and claim no success for yourself. THAT is "not" doing "good works."
Is that a "good work," then - or not?
