Those who annoy Allah and His Messenger Allah has cursed them in this World and in the Hereafter, and has prepared for them a humiliating Punishment. Truly, if the Hypocrites, and those in whose hearts is a disease, and those who stir up sedition in the City, desist not, We shall certainly stir thee up against them: Then will they not be able to stay in it as thy neighbours for any length of time: They shall have a curse on them: whenever they are found, they shall be seized and slain (without mercy).
Quran 33:5761
Pope Francis believes that he understands what motivated the terrorists who slew twelve in Paris last week:
Pope Francis on Monday denounced the religious fundamentalism that inspired the Paris massacres and ongoing Mideast conflicts, saying the attackers were enslaved by deviant forms of religion that used God as a mere ideological pretext to perpetuate mass killings.
In his annual foreign policy address to Vatican-based ambassadors, Francis called for a unanimous response from the international community to end fundamentalist terrorism in the Mideast. And he called for Muslim leaders in particular to condemn extremist interpretations of their faith that seek to justify such violence.
The leader of the 1.2-billion strong Catholic Church has stepped up his call for Muslim political, religious and intellectual leaders to vocally insist that Islam doesnt condone such violence. Francis said the Paris attacks were the result of a throwaway culture in which human beings and even God are rejected outright. Referring to the tragic slayings in Paris, Francis said those responsible had become enslaved by new fads and deviant forms of religion.
Religious fundamentalism, even before it eliminates human beings by perpetrating horrendous killings, eliminates God himself, turning him into a mere ideological pretext, he said.
Go here to read the rest. One of the problems with this analysis is that the punishment of death for blasphemy is very much a mainstream Islamic belief, sanctified by passages in the Koran, and has a long history in the Islamic world. It is no doubt useful to the Pope to pretend otherwise, but it is not accurate.
Koran-5.33. The recompense of those who fight against God and His Messenger, and hasten about the earth causing disorder and corruption: they shall (according to the nature of their crime) either be executed, or crucified, or have their hands and feet cut off alternately, or be banished from the land. Such is their disgrace in the world, and for them is a mighty punishment in the Hereafter.
Pope Francis comments against fundamentalists will resonate with secular liberals in the West, but will fall flat with muslims who are actually familiar with their faith and its history.
He’s Catholic and I speak out against him when I need to. You’re not Catholic so why should a word he says bother you or any other protestant. There is a difference in Catholics criticizing the pope and protestants bashing the Catholic Church.
I could care less what the “leader” of any protestant faith says. Why does it bother you what a Catholic pope says? How does the pope affect the way you worship?
Pope Urban II is rolling over in his grave.
God forbid this woman be president, but if so, I think we'd find this leftist liberation theology socialist Pope siding with her ever chance he'd get. Two peas in a pod.
Maybe at night he's alone, but during the day the "mansion" is a very busy office filled with people and a storage repository for extensive records of baptisms, confirmations, and marriages from several parishes. But it sounds scandalous to say the bishop lives in a mansion, so that's what they print.
ROTFL! I've read your posting history!
Why does it bother you what a Catholic pope says? How does the pope affect the way you worship?
When did I ever say that it "bothers" me? And when did this become a thread about how people worship?
Riiiigggghhhhhttttt.

The rise of antisemitism, the Islamanization of the world and this country. There are some seriously dark and sinister things happening. Francis just talks before he thinks. I believe he is less of a danger than Joe Biden. But time will tell.
Many are up in arms over this Pope. He's 78 and at the glacial speed of most everything in the Church he won't be around long enough to do anything irreversible. IMHO.
And I’m supposed to trust them when they report on something I know less about, like the Pope????
God forbid this woman be president,
I don`t know much about her but from what I have read she has many of the same thoughts as the main stream republican party which go too far on big Government and not far enough on issues that made this nation great to begin with.
So I agree but would not put her quite in the same class with Hillary.
Then let's vet this article.
Straight from the horse's mouth, from "Full text of Pope Francis' address to the Diplomatic Corps", courtesy of Vatican Radio:
"...The personal dimension of rejection is inevitably accompanied by a social dimension, a culture of rejection which severs the deepest and most authentic human bonds, leading to the breakdown of society and spawning violence and death. We see painful evidence of this in the events reported daily in the news, not least the tragic slayings which took place in Paris a few days ago. Other people are no longer regarded as beings of equal dignity, as brothers or sisters sharing a common humanity, but rather as objects (Message for the 2015 World Day of Peace, 8 December 2014, 4). Losing their freedom, people become enslaved, whether to the latest fads, or to power, money, or even deviant forms of religion..."
"...The Middle East is tragically embroiled in other conflicts which have lasted far too long, with chilling repercussions, due also to the spread of fundamentalist terrorism in Syria and in Iraq. This phenomenon is a consequence of the throwaway culture being applied to God. Religious fundamentalism, even before it eliminates human beings by perpetrating horrendous killings, eliminates God himself, turning him into a mere ideological pretext..."
If we are to believe Pope Francis' own words, Islamic "fundamentalism" emanates not from the fundamental tenets of Islam, but from "a culture of rejection".
There are a lot of what Catholics would consider heretics (protestants) on this forum so that is to be expected.
My beef with this Pope is he is a socialist, therefore not in favor of free enterprise, and other Americanisms.
Also he seems to be clueless about the threat of Islam, even though he certainly knows about Christians being slaughtered around the world by Muslims who follow their religion as written in the Koran and Hadiths.
Catholics will try to defend this Pope, but that will get harder as time goes on. It will be like Americans trying to defend Obama once a track record is established.
Pope Franis will be to the Catholic Church, what Obama is to America. -Tom
I’m a fundamentalist but to me that is a strange list. It seems that #1, #2, #4 and #5 are part of a very small subset that comes out of #3.
Show me a post where I have ever badmouth a protestant “leader”. You can’t because nothing is ever posted by protestants concerning any of their alleged leaders. The reason? There are no leaders.
She's left of Hillary, financed by Soros, and promoted by MoveOn.org. Liz Warren regarding "Occupy Wall Street": I created much of the intellectual foundation for what they do. I support what they do. She was exposed for lying about being a native American, and although yammering about the middle class getting "hammered" is one of her favorite refrains, her "progressive" ideology is a recipe for economic destruction. Fortunately she's so grating and obnoxious it's unlikely she'll gain traction on the national level, aside from uber leftists who prefer her to Hillary.
I have an idea. You who know so much better then the rest of us. Head up to Dearborn and find out all about it and get back to us.
Furthermore, what if Francis did come out and said exactly what you want him to say. What would that change? Anything or nothing?
Or is it the word "Fundamental" that bothers you? I suspect that has more to do with it then anything else. Most especially on this forum. Given that the Pope is not American and he does not speak English, I don't think he was in anyway implying "fundamentalist" in the way it is used in this country. I don't think that Christians from America who call themselves Evangelical, Fundamentalists, etc have to worry about the Pope lumping them in with the Mohammedans.

I'm sure "for this purpose" you would make an exception and not consider him a Protestant leader right?
“Given that the Pope is not American and he does not speak English”
He gave a Homily in English yesterday. Saw it on EWTN. I had to do a double-take on it. He can definitely speak English. Not as well as B16 or JP2, but he speaks it.
I’m talking about current heads, leaders, or whatever you want to call them of any protestant denomination. There’s got to be something on FR you can come up with. But I don’t think there is because I have never read one article from a leader of any of the protestant denominations. And if there was why would I criticize it? 99% of the Religion Forum is from Catholics posting articles about the Catholic faith. And of course if these articles are not labeled Caucus they are immediately attacked by the usual suspects. So it’s never anything nice to say about their own denomination, whatever it may be, but always weighing in on Catholic postings to say how wrong Catholics are. Same story, different day.
Fortunately she’s so grating and obnoxious it’s unlikely she’ll gain traction on the national level, aside from uber leftists who prefer her to Hillary.
I voted against Obama but when he won I was hoping he did do a lot of lying.
If Herman Cain would have won I would hope that he was not lying and have confidence he wasn’t.
I do not see any way any one who admitted to being a conservative could have won in the 2012 election, none of my choices even got to first base.
That is why Romney was playing liberal because he thought he had a better chance of winning, he is a professional politician, they lie.
Hopefully the next election more people can see what liberalism and socialism has done to this country and vote different as was indicated in this last election.
Ditto.
