It is not wise to seek the words of the Pope in the mass media.

It's not wise to seek the words of this pope in any media. Ask the adulteress in Argentina.

The man is a socialist. (Sorry if I upset Catholic FReepers).

I'm Catholic and I agree with you. Benedict is still my Pope.

I believe that Pope Francis has one or more science advisors. I suggest he review their credentials, or perhaps replace them; at least consult with them.

I am a lifelong Roman Catholic, and my only further comment is... a matter of faith and morals this is not. If that should be declared as such I have a real quandary.

How many were excommunicated or imprisoned for life for embracing heliocentrism in the 17th Century?

If ever a wall of separation were needed between religion and social engineering!

So like the Pope, are you more concerned about supposed “global warming” than abortion?

How ignorant is this pope?

In the theory and practice of real world science?
Evidently very.

also evidently, the experiences of the 16th and 17th Centuries are not remembered by my church.

Being pope does not mean you know everything about everything.

Yes, but being a Jesuit pope....

“So like the Pope, are you more concerned about supposed “global warming” than abortion?”

So, like Liberals, do you ask leading questions that are laughably ignorant and insulting?

I see no evidence the pope is “more concerned about supposed “global warming” than abortion”.

Good freaking grief!!! The POPE has NO -—NADA....NONE....ZILCH.....NO say-so on climate change. He could be your bartender and it would hold the same weight!!! this is coming from a cradle Catholic that goes to daily Mass and Holy Communion. I think I’m on solid ground here.

Has he written an edict formally excommunicating all pro-abort politicians?

Has he instructed all his bishops and priests to cease giving Holy Communion to pro-abort politicians?

Is he now writing an edict to save trees and baby seals, but not human babies?

His thoughts on climate change don’t amount to squat as far as Catholic doctrine goes. He’s free to have whatever whacky thoughts he might have, which are always in line with other leftists.

Every man is free to have ihs whacky thoughts. But as the Vicar of Christ, Francis need to show some discretion in his edicts.

I’m sure a lot of Catholic FReepers agree with you, although many of them will not openly admit it.

Me? I think he’s more than a socialist — almost a full blown communist — and nutty as Aunt Dora’s fruitcake, besides.

I think the cardinals that “elected” him have multiple spiritual deficits too. What a joke he has proven to be!

Jesus, Mary and Joseph.

Francis the Pope or Francis the Talking Mule?

the pope has argued for a radical new financial and economic system to avoid human inequality and ecological devastation

I would argue that Francis is the Obama of the Catholic church. I suppose Joel Osteen believes in his heart that Pope Francis is a Christian too. He's unfit for the office.

Good point. Jesuits are God’s marines. I guess you don’t question God’s marines.

“Has he written an edict formally excommunicating all pro-abort politicians?”

1) So you’re saying that you didn’t know abortion was a sinful practice and those supporting it are supporting sin so they need a special encyclical for that? Really?

2) Is Francis threatening to excommunicate anyone in this upcoming encyclical? If not, doesn’t that mean there is no parallel and thus you’re off base? (The answer, of course, is yes).

“Has he instructed all his bishops and priests to cease giving Holy Communion to pro-abort politicians?”

Where in the upcoming document does Francis threaten anyone with excommunication?

“Is he now writing an edict to save trees and baby seals, but not human babies?”

How does saving “trees and baby seals” mean you are not interested in saving human babies?

Can you even try to be logical in your claims? If you’re going to make claims on false parallels shouldn’t you be able to assert the existence of those parallels at the very least?

Please show me where Pope Pius XII wrote “an edict formally excommunicating all pro-abort politicians?”

Please show me where Pope Pius XII “instructed all his bishops and priests to cease giving Holy Communion to pro-abort politicians?”

Seriously, according to some estimates there were as many as one million illegal abortions in the U.S. alone each year in the late 1950s. Where was the encyclical from Pius?

How about from Paul VI? He wrote an encyclical against birth control (in which he mentioned abortion JUST ONCE), of course, but when did he ever, “instruct all his bishops and priests to cease giving Holy Communion to pro-abort politicians”? WHEN? NEVER HAPPENED!

The sad thing about pseudo-trads is that they often think they know a great deal, but really they don’t know much at all.

The simple fact is that no pope EVER has published an encyclical that was about abortion alone. Evangelium Vitae isn’t even about ONLY abortion. Was there ever any pope more philosophically and theologically pro-life than John Paul II? And yet he did not “instruct all his bishops and priests to cease giving Holy Communion to pro-abort politicians” either. Ever notice that? Maybe you should put more study into things before you post things that make no sense?

I was born, and raised Catholic. I attended Catholic grade school, high school, and college. And I don’t care if I offend anyone - Francis is not only a socialist, he is an anti-pope, and in my opinion VERY dangerous to the Church.
