"First Christians" reminds me of what Tertullian wrote:

But it is mainly the deeds of a love so noble that lead many to put a brand upon us. "See," they say, "how they love one another," for themselves are animated by mutual hatred; "how they are ready even to die for one another," for they themselves will sooner put to death.

I weep when I consider how many pagans and scoffers must have been converted by the solid Christian example found on our very own forum. How different we are from the world!

Heh, I actually hadn't opened the article before I posted (though maybe I can excuse myself by pointing out that this thread has proceeded as if nobody else has).

One of the sections is actually titled "See How They Love One Another"--we read that this was "the continual astonished cry of the pagans around them." Since Christians today are obviously as loving as the ancients, the pagans around us must have learned to shut their mouths.
