President Barack Obama appealed to the Good Book on Thursday evening when he addressed the nation regarding his executive order on immigration amnesty.
During his speech, Obama alluded to the Old Testament law that mandated that the Ancient nation of Israel look after the foreigners among them.
"Scripture tells us that we shall not oppress a stranger, for we know the heart of a stranger –- we were strangers once, too," said Obama.
"My fellow Americans, we are and always will be a nation of immigrants. We were strangers once, too. And whether our forebears were strangers who crossed the Atlantic, or the Pacific, or the Rio Grande, we are here only because this country welcomed them in, and taught them that to be an American is about something more than what we look like, or what our last names are, or how we worship."
Numerous passages of the Bible command believers to welcome the strangers among them, including Deuteronomy 10: 19 and Leviticus 19:34.
On Thursday, Obama spoke about an executive order he decided to issue that would grant a pathway to legal status for about 5 million immigrants who entered the country illegally.
The order also involved deporting undocumented immigrants with a criminal background and granting temporary citizenship for those with children born in the United States, known as "DREAMers."
The president has garnered praise from some groups for advancing objectives on immigration reform that have stalled in Congress.
He also has garnered criticism from others for reportedly overstepping his constitutional authority and bypassing Congress, specifically a Congress that will have a Republican majority in both houses next year.
Obama is not the first executive official to quote the Bible's stance on immigration when justifying a policy position on the matter.
In July, when offering to provide shelter for the undocumented minors who had entered the country, Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick had similarly quoted the Bible.
"My faith teaches that if a stranger dwells with you in your land, you shall not mistreat him, but rather love him as yourself," stated Patrick.

“If you just go over to the next column, maybe he hasn’t seen these verses,” Gohmert said before reading from Exodus 23:1-3 in the Holman Christian Standard Bible:
“You must not spread a false report. Do not join the wicked to be a malicious witness. You must not follow a crowd in wrongdoing. Do not testify in a lawsuit and go along with a crowd to pervert [justice]. Do not show favoritism to a poor person in his lawsuit.”
Who would’ ve thunk it...Barack Obama, a bible thumper.
But the STRANGER was still required to obey the laws of the land. Obviously millions here have not!
What does that scripture have to do with govt, border security and immigration laws?
Sadly I’ve heard many a Christian use that verse to justify a lawless open border policy.

Several scriptures referring to the mixed multitude, but always caused Israel much sorrow.
Satan quoted Scriptures. He half quoted them out of context and half quoted them, but he quoted them. Obama is Satan’s spawn, so why shouldn’t he?
Satan quoted Scripture out of context to the Lord, too. This is nothing new.
Whenever Obama cites the Bible he just says “the Bible says”...
But whenever Obama cites the Koran, something he does 10 times more often, Obama always says, “the Holy Koran say...”
For a taquiyya Muslim, naturally, the Koran is Holy, but to call Holy the Bible, for them, is blasphemy.

Those that break the law should not be rewarded with amnesty. It is an affront to those who obey the law and follow the proper process. The word illegal means you have broken the law and there are consequences for doing that. It is not a question of compassion. Mr. Obama is only a christian for political purposes and uses it to his advantage when it suits him. That is disgraceful!
The video reminds me of those by his Muslim Brothers—that are accompanied by media frenzy about another beheading by the radical Islamists (or whatever) Never hear of Christians beheading Muslims though do we?

He totally misunderstands that passage. The word translated stranger means “sojourner”. Someone passing through or not permanent. Scripture also teaches that if they don’t abide by the laws they are to be punished not given gifts.
