You choose Christ, that's how the Holy Spirit is involved. Once you choose Christ you trust the Holy Spirit will lead you. I don't make a judgment about how someone comes to Christ (intellectually or by feelings) only that they do.
As for the authority of scripture, there is no doubt. It's the authority of someones individual interpretation that I have skepticism about.
