That's a good point. I wonder if he had asked Jesus for forgiveness if he would have been forgiven.

Before the fact, Jesus said it would be better had that man never been born which wasn't said about anyone else; however, those who said he was casting out demons by the power of Satan, Jesus said that they had committed the unpardonable sin against the Holy Spirit, the only one that could never be forgiven. That's all I can think of Jesus said applying to people of his time; the rest was usually in parables..

So whether the pope said what they say he said, that is what scripture says Jesus said.

I thought of one more; Jesus said of those who harmed little children who believed in Him it would be better if they had a millstone tied around them and thrown into the sea.

There is lots more about sin spoken by the Apostles and also I think Jesus in John's vision in Revelation.
