666 has meaning behind it. John the Revelator was Hebrew. He would have known that each Hebrew letter of the alphabet (which is a number too) has a meaning and/or symbol to it. In the scripture it was written as six hundred and sixty six. Not 666. I find the meaning of this is to be "in the end times, a head will emerge, Satan (snake), and will hook people into sin(disbelief in my book). Allow me to show you how it works by viewing this:
I believe that the letters used to write six hundred and sixty six would be the letter Tav because it equals 400, the letter Resh because it equals 200 and these two added together would equal six hundred. The letter Samech would be used to represent 60, the letter Vav would be used to represent the number 6. So, John would have used the letters Tav, Resh, Samech, and Vav (Vav can be written vav or waw depending on some people translate Hebrew) to represent six hundred and sixty six. Tav has a meaning of "end of existence". Resh has a meaning of "emerging head". Samech has a meaning of Satan or snake. And Vav has a meaning of hook and sin. In any case, you can find through these letters and symbols how John would have used Tav, Resh, Samech, and Vav to represent Satan and his prophetic future.
Relax, I am not offended by your statement. But, my question is, if this study of Biblical numerology had some profound merit, would you truly want to find out more?
I guess that means you are learning to fly. (and walk on water) no sarcasm intended
Understood, but when Christ spoke to John, would He speak in Greek or Hebrew? Both were Hebrew. Why wouldn’t He speak Hebrew to John?
Bkmrk
Makes perfect sense...who Satan is, what symbol is used to represent the dark one, and what he does to man....
I have a few questions about Bible Prophecy: www.prophecyquestions.wordpress.com
8 symbolizes wealth in Chinese
Posted prices often have 8s, like 28.88
Chapter 6
verse 6
word 6
Just sayin'
I resemble that remark.
If I learned from all my mistakes I would be a genius!!!
I learned at the "School of Hard Knocks" and our class colors are "Black & Blue."
Yes, He is coming and that is great faith and stick with it. But do remember that no one knows the day and time and there is debate out there on pre, mid, and post Rapture. So, it in my view it is good to understand what is written. After all, it is written for a reason and maybe it is for those who are left behind and not for me and you. I do keep my eyes firmly on Christ. He is my love and life and without Him I am nothing. See you there ...
I got this from a Catholic biblical scholar who knows Hebrew, Greek and Latin.
So the number 6,6,6 is VI, VI, VI
Since Hebrew is read right to left that is IV,IV,IV. Guess it’s a drug problem!!!
Jesus would speak Hebrew to John, but John wrote Revelations in Greek. All the manuscripts of Revelation are in Greek. As has been said, it was the lingua franca of the time.
LOL
I think I should be a professor at the school of hard knocks!
My problem is like yours, I didn’t learn from all my mistakes.
I always just took it to mean that it was a man’s name (and thus not God) but after reading your post and wanting to know more I went to OrthodoxWiki—not acceptable in academia, but hey, I’m supposed to be do my bookkeeping...
“There are three different characteristics that distinguish the beast according to Revelation 13:16 to 18 - His mark (of authority), His name and the number of his name (666). It might be argued by some that 666 must be applied to one man’s name, and that this will then help identify him as the Antichrist. Others claim that the following verse shows that 666 need not apply solely to a man’s name:
And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS. (Rev. 19:16)
The same Greek word translated as name (onoma) that appears in Revelation 13:17-18 is also used in chapter 19:16, so the word could possible apply to a title, and not just one man’s name.”
So, then what is the wisdom behind six hundred three score and sixty six?
OK, if Jesus spoke Hebrew then would the meaning of the Hebrew language apply?
not
So, then what is the wisdom behind six hundred three score and sixty six?
I can’t help but think 666 is related somehow to the Roman numeral system, Rome being the ruling state at the time Revelation was written.
Maybe it is a coincidence, but 666 in Roman numerals is DCLXVI - one each of the first six Roman numerals:
D = 500
C = 100
L = 50
X = 10
V = 5
I = 1
I don’t know how that specifically relates to anything prophetical, but to me it is interesting how that works out, that it’s exactly one each of the first six numerals.
