It says right in the excerpt that it was the neocortex with no activity.
Thanks for the info. Now, if you want to know what is going on elsewhere, just google one Apollo C Quiboloy. I had never even heard of this character till about 2 months ago. I just happened to be watching TV, while waiting to attend Sunday services, when I saw a “church” service. Everyone was wearing white and it looked like there was a lot of money there. I see their building up by the Davao City airport, in the Buhangin district. I checked this guy out, and was shocked at his claims, but not surprised. Also, google Felix, son Erano, grandson Eduardo Manalo, and the Iglesia ni Cristo. Two home grown cults that proliferate here.

Neocortical death is not whole brain death. I ask again: did the scans show any brain activity?

He is just an ordinary man like us, but he was called, he was chosen, he was anointed and appointed to become the Son of God in these last days to lead us back to the perfect will of the Father.
HMMMmmm...
Seems like the world is primed to accept someone, Anyone who says words their itching ears want to hear.
Unfortunately, they are making some inroads, as are the Jehovah's Witnesses. I never hear about Scientology, but I think the Iglesia Ni Cristo is the biggest cult. An angel and his church. Felix Manalo died in 1963. Erano Manalo died in 2009, and the grand son Eduardo is running the show now. My ex, before she came out of the Iglesia Ni Cristo, was on a first name basis with Erano. Pretty scary stuff huh? After all is said and done, both Manalo and Quiboloy make utterly outrageous anti Biblical claims. Other than making tons of money, I don't really know what their true reason for being is, because it certainly can't be for spreading the true gospel.
Because Scripture describes different things happening to different people after death, I suspect that people do have different experiences, depending on how close to the Lord they were in this life. But though I have eagerly read the books and other accounts about life after (temporary, by-earthly-standards) death, I discard those that don’t coincide with what we might gather from Scripture. One thing that’s important to note is that people who really have such an experience tend to let it inform the rest of their lives. That is, they become more serene, patient, loving, and heaven-focused. I do not see this in Dr Alexander. I may not be altogether fair and of course I haven’t met the man, but his interviews creep me out. I have met truly holy people and there is a big, big difference.
You’ve not checked for yourself?

I have met him several times. Have heard his story several times in person directly from his mouth..... and I totally agree with you.
