Why would intelligent, successful people give up their careers, alienate their friends, and cause havoc in their families...to become Catholic? Indeed, why would anyone become Catholic?
As an evangelist and author who recently threw my own life into some turmoil by deciding to enter the Catholic Church, I've faced this question a lot lately. That is one reason I decided to make this documentary; it's part of my attempt to try to explain to those closest to me why I would do such a crazy thing.
Convinced isn't just about me, though. The film is built around interviews with some of the most articulate and compelling Catholic converts in our culture today, including Scott Hahn, Francis Beckwith, Taylor Marshall, Holly Ordway, Abby Johnson, Jeff Cavins, Devin Rose, Matthew Leonard, Mark Regnerus, Jason Stellman, John Bergsma, Christian Smith, Kevin Vost, David Currie, Richard Cole, and Kenneth Howell. It also contains special appearances by experts in the field of conversion such as Patrick Madrid and Donald Asci.
Ultimately, this is a story about finding truth, beauty, and fulfillment in an unexpected place, and then sacrificing to grab on to it. I think it will entertain and inspire you, and perhaps even give you a fresh perspective on an old faith.

Does that mean I then should dress as the population did then as well?
Jesus is the great High Priest now and did away with the Priesthood....the New Covenant changed all that as He took His office over us all. ...He removed the curtain of the Jewish Priesthood who only had admittance before Him.....now 'all' can come directly to God through His son Jesus.... And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit.... 'At that moment'... the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom........ (Matthew 27:50-51
God was through with that temple 'and its religious system',... the temple and Jerusalem were left desolate (destroyed by the Romans) in A.D. 70, just as Jesus prophesied in Luke 13..." Look, your house is left to you desolate. I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord."
As long as the temple stood, it signified the continuation of 'the Old Covenant'. As is written...."By calling this covenant new, he has made the first one 'obsolete' and 'outdated'...Hebrew 8
Why? seriously we quote scripture to you all the time and you claim literal words are figurative or metaphor.
Rev 19:15 - “From His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it He may strike down the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron; and He treads the wine press of the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty.”
When you read that Jesus will return and have a sword coming out from His mouth, do you believe Jesus will have an actual sword sticking out from his mouth?
Is it possible Jesus is telling us something and we ought to pay attention to what He really means rather than our own imaginations or fancies?
I’ve got to admit...someone whacking bad guys with an actual sword sticking out their mouth makes for a pretty cool mental image!
If I ever meet the pope I still would like to try on that hat.
That hat is off the chain!
There’s no way Jesus was drinking or eating ‘His own’ blood and body at the “Pass-over” Meal......
Jesus had not yet died ....sheesh... you guys have that event so screwed up.... Jesus was “the Lamb of God”....just as John announced.....and just as the Israelites were ‘passed-over’ with the blood on their doorposts. When we are In Chirst so too are we.
Jesus was showing He would soon be the ultimate sacrifice.
If He licked his fingers He might have cut Himself on that sharp sword sticking out of His mouth.
Can we agree that He sometimes used metaphors?
Wow! That's an amazing statement on several levels. It's carnal at it's core. True followers of Christ rely on Him and His shed blood alone for salvation. True followers of Christ rely on the promised indwelling of the Holy Spirit for guidance and understanding. True followers of Christ rely on the only recorded infallible words of God which are found in scripture alone. True followers of Christ rely on the truth of those scriptures and understand that we are saved by God's grace alone and not our own efforts. What do Catholics rely on?
>>The autonomous self-will reigns supreme and not Christ.<<
Do Catholics have no concept of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit or do they just deny it?
Jesus was a Jewish rabbi.
Some of them actually fly!
That would mean they had sacraments centuries before they even existed, the Catholic Church is quite a few hundred year shy of even 2k years old.
Todays protestants have no liturgy to speak of, wear no vestments, and have absolutely no authority, other than themselves.
No, they do not take on the trappings of the Pharisees.
Protestants, as well as other non-Catholic Religion Christians--you are right--they have no authority. All authority belongs and comes from Jesus through the Holy Spirit. Works quite well.
God is supreme, not a pope.
PBS, are you lurking?
...not on this thread, but thanks for the consideration of the shout out.
If I had known this thread was going to turn into just another Catholic bashing by the usual suspects I would have made it CATHOLIC CAUCUS. Won’t make that mistake again.
I will not allow the haters to mock Christ’s Pilgrim Church on Earth. Learned my lesson with this post. That’s my last word on the subject.
Didn't think so.
They’ll never get it because they ‘need’ the priesthood....and the priesthood need their jobs and the perks with it. If the priesthood and pope goes...all else falls...just as with Mary...these are the pillars of catholicism Imo....not Jesus Christ.
If questioning beliefs and asking for biblical proof is bashing then catholics and non catholics should avoid these discussions. If ones faith can’t stand up to scrutiny then that faith should be questioned.
Hmmm, I guess I had better amend my comment. It’s there for sure. I wonder why they don’t seem to be able to defend all their beliefs with that scripture? It’ not just rote recitation is it?
What do Catholics rely on?
A man wearing fancy robes and a silly hat along with a pagan goddess.
Sounds pretty sad compared to The Creator, The Architec of the Universe, The Lord, The Savior, The Alpha and the Omega, King of kings and Lord of lords, etc... etc... etc...
Short of a Damascus road experience the roman cult will not abandon the false teachings on Mary. There is to much credibility invested in what’s been taught on Mary. It would ruin any credibility the roman cult may have..
We trust the Bible because it is God's inspired word. With or without the Catholics God would have gotten His Word to us.
Without the Catholic Church you would still be praying to the sun gods.
